Running Thread 2026

Can anybody recommend me a mid range shoe for running on country roads/lanes? I won't be doing much more than 5k, maybe 10k at a push. I'm also a bit of a heel striker, if that makes much difference?

Also a mid range wearable to track my runs? I don't have an iPhone, so apple watch is out of the *running* 🥁
Any Garmin or coros watch. Garmin tends to be the most popular. Best go on the website and see what features you want but honestly, you'll probably not use most of them 😃.
Shoes you really need to go to a running store and try on options to see what suits you best. We go to one in Newcastle which I think is called northern runner (near the edge of china town).

Just under 4 weeks to manchester marathon. To those who have ran it before, any hints/tips? Killer hills or anything? All advice appreciated. Did gloucester half on sunday and although I feel I ran ok im suddenly very aware its twice as far.

I've only run the half at Manchester (different full marathons). If this is your first then my main advice would be don't start too fast it it makes the 2nd half so much harder and make sure you've git your fueling tested on your long runs (,fuel from the start).

I got a garmen forerunner and its immense - the apple watch is shit and needs charging every day, mine last 10-14 days between charges

Garmin 45 or 55 will do the job. Can link it up to Strava too if you have an account on there.

Shoes are hard to recommend, comes down to personal preference. I tend to go towards Nike for road shoes, and new balance or saucony for trail.
I've got nee idea on models, but tend to go for something around the £100 mark for roads. Have a look on sports shoes.com they tend to have decent sales on too

Did some marathons back in the late eighties and early nineties.
Half-way in a marathon is 18 miles. The first hour or so, you should be coasting, running slower than you feel you should be. Take a drink at the first station. If you hit a rough patch early doors, don't worry - you will come out of it.

I have Garmin but my other half has coros after previous Garmin. She found them much of a muchness but the battery life on the coros is significantly better. Enjoy your stats 😃

I've done it twice & both times it's arrived about a fortnight before the race

Steady HM today, first run since Sundays Valletta 10k. Easy run on Monday then a few days off before I tackle the Goggins 4x4x48 Challenge over Easter. Current plan is to start my first run of 12 at Friday 8am, meaning the last one would be Sunday 4am. Gunna reward myself with some new daily trainers, my Evo SLs must be approaching 700km now haha.

If anyone is exploring fuel/nutrition options give Voom a try. You can get a sample pack for just a few quid if you use the code WELCOMEPACK.

Had the 2 pre workout caffeine bars and thought they had a bad after taste, but had the raspberry energy/electrolyte bar today and it was canny nice. 46g of carbs and some electrolytes in as well, plan to use them alongside my gels going forward.

Sports Nutrition Energy Bar Taster Offer. 2x Energy of a gel

Love the idea of the goggins challenge. Are you running the same time as him or just taking it on yourself and thats convenient time? Please keep us informed how you do with this.
