Running Thread 2026

I'm in cyan for Manchester, be a long day of waiting around to start

New Sunderland 5k which is free and you get a doughnut on the 31st

Visiting Herrington parkrun for the first time tomorrow. Is there plenty of parking folks.
You could park in fletcher crescent (DH4 4LT) and jog over to warm up.

Disclaimer: this is about the limit of my local knowledge as I spent each school holiday there.

Aye loads of parking. There's parking next to love lilly, or parking down by the boating lake. Or you could park at the foot of penshaw monument just over the road from the park. Handy if your going for a coffee at Penshaw tea rooms after

QUite a bit my recommendation would be to park about 1/2 mile away opposite the pub nearer Shiney than Sunderland its either the prospect or the country park - then you get a 5 minute warm up jog doown to the ampitheatre. Its my favourite park run but quite hilly and a bit traily superb scenary and atmosphere.

30k done today , my longest run ever so absolutely buzzing

Was doing well till the sun started coming up and I absolutely died going up dykelands road

Still happy though
Well done 👏👏👏. Are you one of those doing Manchester marathon. If so and it's hot in the day don't forget to adjust your pace accordingly (sorry if stating the obvious but it's easy to get carried away).
I did Herrington parkrun this morning. What a lovely run and a choice of two fabulous cafes. Run quickly negated by the corned beef pie during parkfaff and take away cake from penshaw 🤣🤣🤣.

Was that your first time at herra park? I dragged my arse along this morning, and managed to sleep in and miss the start by a few minutes so was playing catch up 😀

You will have over took me then. Yes first time. It was my first run back after resting from my ultra. I was one of the girls in the pancreatic cancer t shirt.
My local is jubilee but we both saidd we'll be visiting again.

Did you have like an A4 sign/picture on the back of your top? If so I came past you on the first lap up the hill.

Was my first time doing the new temporary route, can't decide if I like it better than the usual route

Just crept in under 44mins at Valletta 10k. Pretty pleased with that considering how humid it is and that I only landed in the country yesterday afternoon 😊

All the best to everyone else with races today, and haway the lads!

If the bloke in the roefs shirt who ran the gloucester half marathon posts on here. Well done mate. Couldn't quite catch you.

Well done. Cracking conditions for it. Would've loved to have a proper go today as all my best times there have been in horrible weather but the aim today was just getting it done without risking another injury.

Yeah ideal conditions. I just aimed to go out at sub 4-minute kms and see how I went. Put a bit of a finish in at the end as I had a bit left.

Can anybody recommend me a mid range shoe for running on country roads/lanes? I won't be doing much more than 5k, maybe 10k at a push. I'm also a bit of a heel striker, if that makes much difference?

Also a mid range wearable to track my runs? I don't have an iPhone, so apple watch is out of the *running* 🥁
