I’d be happy to continue with the DOF structure if it was done correctly. The idea is to bring players in to play a type or brand of football.
But based upon our recruitment I have no confidence that any kind of style of play or type of player are being identified. What sort of idiocy says bringing in Danny Bath, who Stoke fans said was shite with the ball at his feet, would be any good at facilitating playing out from the back. Or that letting a steady player in Flanagan go and not replacing him?
How does bringing in loads of wingers fit our philosophy when we’ve looked good in a back 3 and wing backs but none of the lads brought in are capable of playing in that position? What sort of recruitment team allows us to have one fit striker in Stewart and only supplements him with 39 year old Jermaine Defoe?
Im seeing no benefit of bringing in these players under this model. I get it’s to try and prevent managers burdening using with players who won’t transition to a new manager and wouldn’t be effective in a different system. But I’m seeing no evidence that is even what we are trying to achieve.
Plenty of other football teams allow the coach free rein. It’s either that or we employ a better DOF.
Something has to give as we are a complete and utter shambles and a total laughing stock.
