Roy Keane

Loads of questioning of KLD and more specifically Speakman.
Will all be forgiven if they manage to get the Keane deal over the line?
It always seems a bit all or nothing on here at times. 🤔

Personally, after the Donald debacle, I've tried really hard not to get drawn in by Dreyfuss, and tried to judge him on actions and results.

So far, I've seen

- season cards go up (against the price freeze promise)
- at least one, and probably two, more failures to get out of League One
- a failure to do anything about the pitch, despite the press coverage about getting a state of the art pitch last year
- an absolutely shambolic off field operation, where it's impossible to get strips, the club shops are closed at peak times like pre-season and Christmas, and you can't get into the ground using cash
- no investment in the infrastructure of the stadium (unbelievably, the PA system is getting worse)
- a refusal to tell the fans who owns the club
- waiting far too long to sack Lee Johnson, who should have been gone the morning after the Lincoln game
- what looks increasingly like a ballsed up managerial appointment

I'm not sure what the list of achievements is meant to be, or why, after a year of more underperformance, we shouldn't be questioning him?

Yeah but his dad owned Marseille two decades ago so we should be grateful iirc

Apparently not. Read somewhere that it had been discussed throughout the month. Could be bullshit like but either way I think we can all agree that getting shot of him wasn’t the issue, especially on his recents showings. It was not replacing him that was the mistake. Ooh look, just like the head coach situation.
Ah, fair enough. Whole thing just reaked of reaction to me.

Selling Flanagan, a decent league one defender, and not replacing him, leaving us short at centre back.

Lack of striking options generally, especially if Stewart was to get a short or long term injury

No experienced right back

No mobile, experienced centre mid enforcer

Sack a manager and then a pantomime ensues to bring in a replacement whilst Rome burns and two clueless stand ins oversee a disgraceful defeat by Doncaster Rivers, bottom of the league but who could have been 4-0 up at half time quite easily. 38,000 people treated to an absolute amateurish shit show as a result. Disgusting.

Make pretentious videos instead of just appointing a manager who most supporters would like to see given the opportunity and entertain a series of applicants who will see many walk away if they are given the job.

The constant corporate speak and blather about projects and data, which from several heavy thrashings and ridiculous home results against clubs at the bottom end at the time of playing them-Charlton, Lincoln and Doncaster-and throwing away numerous late leads, eg: Wycombe and Accrington etc.-is not working very well.

That so many clubs with lesser support, history and overall squad ability are doing better than us suggest those running the club need to have a good look at themselves. Four years in this division is unacceptable. Standards are not good enough.
Absolutely agree with everything you said, those “lesser clubs” however will have proper footballing knowledge inside them, we seem to just operate a circus time and time again. So we have a stadium and academy what’s premier league quality I keep hearing? What good is that when those in charge don’t have a f**king clue.. that staring 11 against Doncaster was the exact same team that just got annihilated off Bolton, you along with myself and god knows how many others knew you don’t pick the same team in front of 38,000 spectators and hope for the best! It’s basic stuff that we can’t seem to get right.

spot on with all marra and i think i know the 1 person who will sort this shit show out fast

I think Keane would be on a hiding to nowhere.

15 games to get sorted. A very tricky job.

He could easily take a while to sort things and drop out of the play offs.

What then?

This is why he'll be wanting minimum 18 months.

If he took over now and didn't get us promoted - with a woefully inexperienced an unbalanced squad - then it's hardly his fault is it. He would want a full season and two transfer windows to actually have a proper go at it, on his terms. As would any other manager worth having.

It does mate and it may well have been. At the end of the day we can only go off what we see and read and some of that is gonna be false. We may never actually know unless he writes his memoirs. 😂

I'm not saying the process should be ripped up but Speakman needs to be asked questions.
If its a case of Keane or Speakman and who fits this club better, its a complete no brainer imo, this "model" is looking sillier as everyday goes by, long term is fine but they seem to be making thee biggest pigs ear of the most important target of all which is to get us out of this tinpot league as quickly as possible.

Based on what I've seen the last few years with managers who on paper have looked absolutely capable of doing the job at this level with more resources, facilities (from clubs they've worked with beforehand) and on paper, a very strong squad, for this league - who have all ultimately not done enough to get us over the line (call it what you want, out of their depth when its been tested, pressure? I don't know), that tells me another type of manager like that to come in now would have no better chance than going in a different route and rolling the dice - ie Keane.

If it doesn't work out it doesn't work out and either Keane goes or stays and we go again in the summer.

My personal view is that even if we fail this year, I'll respect KLD for having the guts for going for Keane and not another yes man.

If he does go and get Keane, it is a clear sign he wants us out of this division asap. It'll be a fresh welcome from the 'yes sir yes sir' spineless decision making we've had over the last X years.

Those saying it's all a nostalgia road trip baffle me - the harsh truth is that we are in the third tier of english football, we need to do whatever to maximise our chances of getting out of it.

Give him next season to 100% get us promoted !
That surely would be the last chance saloon for Keane.
I still believe it'd be better to afford him the opportunity than to go with another nobody.

If he fell short after a full season in charge he'd be resigned to the fact that he's not cut out for management.

The potential rewards though outweigh the risks for me.

Speakman comes across as too smug and knowing to me, Its as if he's chuckling to himself at the thought that fans think football is about winning games when its actually all about process, philosophy, and decency

Yep that’s how he comes across

If that’s not how he really thinks then he needs to sort out how he communicates and carries himself

It might work in a non-football industry and/or down south. But his punters at SAFC will not abide it

Agree with all of this but I don't see why we should be surprised when Football Clubs are a rich man's plaything, regardless of whether the rich man knows what he's doing.
