On the flip side it might suit him. Previously there was mention of a 6 month contract with an extension if he gets us up. That's not happening now, we've fucked automatics, if we want him he'll be able to ask for at least 18 months and likely a better bonus if he gets us up this season. If he's coming he needs to be here soon mind
While I agree it’s less likely; I’m not sure automatics is gone. How far were we behind the leaders with 16 games left in 2007?

Agree with your point anyway, he can ask for a better deal and I think he would want 18 months anyway to be honest.

It's virtually gone mind. You've got to assume Wigan and Rotherham will be at least 9 ahead. Realistically we've got to win almost every game. And like I say, much though Keane was great it took him a good few months before we hit our great run. Anythings possible like but realistically, with no signings, we'd have to go on one hell of a run.

To answer the question we were 12 off derby and 6 off Birmingham (although when we'd played 30 they'd played 28). So not massively different, but that was when Keane had worked with the squad for months, and he'd brought people in. This time we're asking him to come in and do it from a standing start. And that was a run that almost every fan acknowledges was one of the best run ins in our history, its highly unlikely we repeat it now! Not impossibly, but realistically it isn't happening

Don’t have any qualms with that but to play Devils advocate. The teams in this league can go on bad runs any time and this squad is (for the level) better than that one: sort the defence and we will win most every game.

I think Wigan will last the course, but still have my doubts about Rotherham. They will have a sticky patch, and we could get on another roll. You never know mate.

You're right, so there's definitely a chance, but again it's going to take a massive and very quick change to get that lot who have conceded 8 to Bolton and Doncaster to suddenly win almost every game. Hell we haven't even got enough centre backs so god help him if we get injuries (of which we've had many). I'd see it as a 1 in 10 chance of automatics, at best, even with keane. But regardless, whether it's play offs to prepare for or a highly unexpected amazing run to automatics , either way we need him in now, not in a couple of games time

Obviously best to wait until after midnight to get more common sense on here.🤣

Definitely shouldn't have said anything. He'd already done the podcast where he basically said the process had started. This added nothing but made us sound like we're dragging our heels, which would be ridiculous given we sacked Johnson so we could have a real go at top two but had very little time to do it in. It really needed to be Johnson out and a replacement in within a few days. I hope its not to calm expectations around Keane because that would suggest its far from done. Either way it hasn't worked, if it isn't Keane now and they go for an uninspiring choice there's going to be a world of criticism coming

Two thoughts cam to my mind.
One it was a counter to RK comment on TV that contract has to be right.
Two he wanted a bit of the limelight as he somehow thinks he has created a lot of interest in us.

I think your probably right he was buying time and managing expectations.

I really think its a matter of when not if he joins mate.
It's a perfect scenario for both sides.
There is no real reason that it shouldn't happen.

Aye but he’d inherited a bttm of the table team, he’s inheriting a 3-4 placed team.

Aye, but again he had months to work with them (wasn't for a good few months before we started really winning regularly) and he had a raft of new signings. This is wildly different, and even when he did it last time I think we all appreciated it was something special. It's highly unlikely that he comes into this unbalanced side, no signings, 3 months left and immediately wins enough games for automatic promotion. Aye, mathematically it isn't gone, but realistically we need one of the others to collapse whilst we suddenly hit some of the best form our fans have ever seen

And bizarrely, this as well

Unless Wigan or Rotherham have a mag like implosion it’s the play offs at best imho whoever comes in. Only a Keane-Warnock deadly duo can save us.

I'm not as down as some are about play off prospects mind. Don't believe in all that "curse" shit. If we get Keane in soon and he gets a while to work with them I think we've got every chance. We're a decent footballing side when set up correctly, get the defense sorted, have Keane motivating them, defoe and stewart are two of the best strikers, Pritchard and McGeady, Neil, all good at this level. We should be looking to sort ourselves out, confirm play offs at least, and win them. But we need him in sooner rather than later

Goals generally haven't been that much of an issue and like you say, the addition of Defoe has only strengthened that.
My issue this season is that from day 1, nobody seems to know our strongest back 3,4,or5 (depending on set up).
Stop conceding, and you're in the game.
The goals will take care of themselves.

TBH GG our form is so shit, Think houdini would give it a miss :)

He's coming bro's, Just sorting his kennels out as we speak.
Strange that the itk prehab and wheaty over the road have said nothing more since the match yesterday....laying low sadly!............and no comment about the Speakman interview that made either speaky or the itk's look like tools!

I'm very confident of going up via the playoffs (if it comes to that), still haven't given up on the automatics.

If we have everyone FIT and and a reasonable manager in....the playoffs will be a piece of piss 😃
