If we're going for managers that have achieved something 15 years ago why not go for O'Neil? All I'm trying to say is there is a reason no other club will touch him, and that for me makes it a bad decision. I'm well up for being proven wrong though as it would be class.
You’re missing the other attributes that he will bring to the club, professionalis, respect, hard work all of which you know because he brought that the last time and we all know what Keane is about. Hull fans don’t rate McCann for reasons known to them after a promotion, I wouldn’t want to find them reasons out if he is Sunderland’s head coach

Did Ipswich even back Keane as much as we did? I wonder if he got a bit of a shit deal down there?
He spent shit loads for the time, so much their owner subsequently pulled funding and ran them on a ridiculously tight budget. He sold a load of highly rated players as well like Jordan Rhodes. I know a few Ipswich fans and they blame him for their long decline into league one under Marcus Evans.

Fair enough, I mean as I said I'm open to being proven wrong. Ultimately I don't think any of us know how he'll do. At the very least it'll be interesting.

Said there was no point covering Sunderland as we were in the third division and nobody was interested.

Then weephillie got the Defoe exclusive, made Radio 5 and national news and Downie took a right huff at anyone who pointed it out by blocking them on Twitter

What’s telling no one gave a fuck about his smashed car either

Very few managers will ever be backed like we did outside the top few clubs and managers. Keane is pretty pragmatic about his time at Ipswich, basically accepts his transfer activity was rubbish.

See that's a red flag for me. I mean it's purely hypothetical as we have no idea what the interview was like. But I don't want any manager dictating terms to Speakman or KLD. Keane should be lucky that he's even been interviewed, because let's be honest there's hardly a queue of other suitors.
He has far more experience than Speakman & KLD why shouldn't he be dictating terms, he's been there and done it all, including a promotion to the PL as a manager. He is the most qualified of the candidates mentioned except Colin who is too old imo

Seething that you've got Eddie Howe in situ when you thought you'd get a big name as a manager.
Not at all. I wish your club the best. I want you up there in that premier league with (hopefully) us. Two big northeast teams.

Trust me it's not anything other than a simple opinion like I mentioned.

It seems there’s an opinion on here in some quarters that Keane the Pundit = Keane the manager. Which couldn’t be further from the truth. Keane knows what box office is. Hence his success in the media. But he knows football.

I bet over the last few years he’s watched and rewatched every managerial genius going. Maybe I’m being hopeful but I reckon his football will be more naunced now. I have a feeling that set pieces in particular are going to be interesting.

I also (and this is more nostalgic than anything) have a feeling Dajaku is going to thrive under him. Carlos Edwards style.

My biggest hope is that he sorts out Gooch and gives him focus. Because a good Gooch (guffaw) in this league can be a difference.

Even if Keane doesn’t come now, I would like to think KLD has learned that his type is what we need, a huge character who can be box office, not wet fish managers full of the same old platitude. Alright we are in League one but let’s push it, “build it and they will come”. We are a League one team, we aren’t a League one club and I am fairly certain its known throughout football.

Ipswich were in a heap when he arrived,a heap when he left and have been in a heap ever since

But yeah, let's blame Roy Keane for the current state of Ipswich on the field and off

They weren't in a heap when he joined though, and yes he did leave them in a heap. He isn't the only factor, but he's a big part. I'm only going on what Ipswich fans have told me anyway. People still blame Moyes for where we are today - Keane is their equivalent.

For what it’s worth I think he’ll like Gooch. For all his inconsistencies he embodies the attributes everyone reckons Keane will bring. Professional, grafts his bollocks of on the field, gets stuck in, passionate. Doesn’t give up despite mistakes or criticism. Think Keane could get the best out of him.

I think the Keane that came into management the first time round would have had an arrogance and an expectation of levels of attitude and abilities that were on par with his and what he was used to, now that will have gone, he has managed and failed at levels to have him let go of those, you listen to his punditry now and its basics he fumes and not being managed, movement, a five yard pass to a teammate, marking the post nothing complicated. As stated above his being right hand man and observed tactics, modern players and all the rest of it and as a pundit he has seen the best teams, managers and tactics.

He won't be able to storm into a club now with the same aura and demands that he did before and that could only benefit us, he'll have learned from his failures he's an intelligent bloke like that. A Roy Keane with a point to prove is a much better Keane to have in charge than a rookie manager with elite expectations and an inexperience that we had last time,

Yes he's not managed in a while but he's been in a better place to learn and study and he's always been involved in someway in football.

I struggle to find any negatives to be honest, despite many being pointed out here, I mean look at the blokes smile last night and tell me that doesn't make you want that magic carpet ride done properly !!!
