Keane coming back as manager has to be one of the most idiotic ideas I've ever heard. Other than getting us promoted ages ago, he's done nothing at all. He's been out of management too long and he won't work at all with a DoF. Appoint him and it won't be long before he either walks out or he's sacked. I'd rather we kept Streaky than have Keane back.

To be honest I’m not sure either. I have faith in the hierarchy at the club though so if they believe him to be the right man then I trust their judgment.
 
Honestly I'm kinda half in, half out with it. I'm a firm believer in never going back for a second time in terms of management. However Keano installed an ethos in our squad which was never say die.

How many 90th minute+ winners did we score under him?

How many times did you see our players give up on loose ends that we had no right to win but still did?

More than we can imagine and even 13 years later, it's still viewed upon as a great time in our history, especially the championship season under him.

I think he still has the mentality to instil that ethos into every fibre of the club and that COULD potentially lead us to something fantastic.

It could however potentially lead to players not enjoying his method of management and big fallouts left right and centre, but I choose to be on the optimistic side of this one.

I hope it's him.
 
He’s not managed a club for 11 years be a crazy appointment. People seem to forget with Keanes it on his terms or he walks. Got us promoted kept us but did buy a lot of average or worse than average players. Would not be my choice but don’t think the board have a clue or plan.

Roy Keane is misunderstood by many, he gets Sunderland and the passion we have for Our club and no one could doubt his passion for winning. Its not about the money for Roy Keane, its the desire to be a winner that floats his boat. It is totally the mentality that we need right now.
No one remembers who came second or were runners up. How many times have you seen a final where the runners up immediately take off their medals.
Regardless of the man you may think he is, no One can doubt the fire in his Belly to win.
For him to even consider us should tell you all you need to know.

Played under Alex Ferguson

Won pretty much everything that's worth winning as a player

He knows Sunderland

He managed us from pretty much our previous lowest ebb to setting the ground work for our longest stint in the top league in living memory

Spotted Ellis Short maybe wasn't the best owner while Ellis was still writing the cheques

Failed to get Ipswich promoted

Helped Martin O'Neil dial it in for his last few jobs

Worked as a pundit

Has an existing professional relationship with a board member of the club

I'm not saying he's perfect. Nobody is. If Pep or Klopp chucked their hat in the ring their lack of League One experience would be a cause for concern.

I just can't see why appointing Roy Keane is more of a risk than a 'safe' option such as Neil or McCann. Nowt against either of them. Either might do a cracking job. I just think if Keane wants it no realistic candidate comes close.

A manager who can keep a team in the Premier League with worse than average players must be some manager.

Given the fact scouting of talent won't be in his remit it's the perfect Head Coach or whatever title it is.

I think he’s mellowed a bit, it still has that drive and professionalism and will to win.

Really hope this happens now, losing out at this stage and having that scruff McCann rock up here to get drunk and play shit football would be unbearable.

IF he comes and it works, Defoe extending his career here with coaching involved would be the business.

I'll get behind him, obviously but looking at what Keane has done in his management career and the fact he hasn't even managed in about a decade this is a strange appointment. Not dissimilar to the Wilkinson appointment in the sense Keane is basically a retired manager.

On the plus side it will create a good atmosphere and it won't take much to start to gain momentum if we do start well. Bring on Saturday!

I remember as a young 'un cheering when Keegan took over at the Mags. At the time he'd been out the game for a while. Less of a retired manager. More of a genuine OAP. The kind of guy who pulls over into a lay-by for a gentle snooze.

What I'd failed to realise If you create a feel good factor good things can happen.
