Ross Stewart

Really?????

He missed 86 games and only played in 40 games for Southampton.

Missed the major part of each of the 3 seasons he was there due to injury.

Played 12 PL games with one goal.

What part of those stats for an injury prone striker who's done absolutely nothing at PL level suggests we should take him and his fragile hanstrings on and actually give him a wage ?

We did great business selling LND for £10m. I wouldn’t waste a penny of it paying him a salary.

I loved him here..... but no question that he's very much ' yesterday's man ' and would be of zero use in our squad.

Assuming he’s fit now, he’d be a good addition in any PL team

But he's never been fit for the last four seasons !

In that time he's missed 149 games through injury.

Scored the vast majority of his goals at League One or lower level, (where he was great for us).

Couldn't get regular game time at Southampton in the Championship last season.

Only scored one goal in the PL.

If Florent Ghisolfi suggested signing a player with that sort of history from any club in the world, we'd be questioning his sanity.

Yet some on here have a fixation that LND, a perennial injury prone footballer, who's done very little at Championship level and nothing at PL level, would be an asset to us.

Very harsh and cheery picking too.

He played 34 times last season, admittedly mostly of the bench or for an hour or so when starting. He scored 11 goals. That's a decent return.

He was first choice when fit but Southampton were wisely managing his minutes so he didn't break down. He could definitely do a job off the bench as he is a completely different type to what we have, a tall target man who isn't bad on the deck.

I wouldn't sign him given his injury record but he isn't some league one level plodder.

If we’re going to progress season on season we need better than LND

Spot on Hanky boy, he done well for us and if we were in the Championship then it's a no brainer to take him back. But we aren't we are now a top 7 Premier League team so we should be targeting better players who are younger with more potential or who are more proven at a higher level.
If the Boro are serious about going up then if he is available on a free then they'd be mental not to enquire.

Left off European club 😜

If we signed him (alongside a potential starter too) and he came on late in a few games and scored a couple of winners or got us the odd draw gaining us a handful of points he would have earned his keep. Isidor did that last season with his pace. Stewart is a completely different type.

The problem is if we got a couple of injuries up front we might need so someone who can play 90 minutes and on paper he doesn't look up to it. He scored a good goal in the cup against Arsenal, he's a handful at any level IMO but only if he's fit which there's still a huge question mark about.

Hes 30 in a few weeks and since February 2023 he's started 15 league games.

Normally I would say he owes them. They stuck by him and waited for his injuries to subside. The problem is that thanks to Southampton cheating he’s been denied a chance to play at the highest level so probably doesn’t feel any loyalty and wants to go after the best offer he can get. If he takes the option of 1 more year it’ll be at championship level and I reckon Southampton are going to have an awful time of the next year.

They had to stick by him during injuries, it’s guaranteed

On this tho the Southampton deal he got when leaving us most likely means he’ll be comfortable in retirement but signing an extension won’t be as lucrative as a fresh deal and that definitely secures his future.

Considering he was on a pittance here, he was a good player, I’d like to see him get that coin.

He’s way out of Hearts’ league. Best striker outside the prem when fit and there’s some encouraging signs he might be over the worst of his injury nightmare

Isn’t this why it’s funny shankland is moving to rangers

It’s like the opening scene of moneyball, with the fella leaving the As for the Red Sox and the As (hearts) going on to get someone better for cheaper with bloom.

Have him back where?
Sunderland?

Have you lost the plot, he is not Premier League / European standard; we left his level behind many moons ago

Hell of a squad player …. A sub who scores goals, is outstanding at set pieces both offensive and defensive.
His quality is not in doubt.
His fitness is however, he’s made of matchsticks. But if someone said he could sit on your bench and reliably be fit enough to come off it for 30 minutes every week I would take him if it had been 12 months ago.
Look how he played in FA Cup against premiership opposition this season.
He is one of the best 60 minute strikers in the Championship.
Free transfer and 20k - 30k a week I would have him around if I was Hull.
Truth however is he should be at a Championship club that can afford to keep him on the bench and accept his limitations
