Ross Stewart

Can understand why he wouldn't want to have the deal automatically renewed. Could get another serious injury and be out another 2 years. If I were him id be looking for a longer deal somewhere even if its at Southampton

In a great position, got an offer for 1 yesr extension or can try his luck for 1 decent length contract that could see his career out.

I'd still have here on a free as think he'd be a terrific 3rd or 4th choice striking option

By shear determination Ross has got himself into the Scotland World Cup squad.

I hope then that he gets an opportunity to show off his skills on the biggest stage in football and that after having such a bad experience at Southampton with injury and the rest that it leads to much better things for him. I am sure it will.

Id rather have both.

Do you think Talbi is currently better than Clarke?
Yes. Talbi is 20 years old and got 5 goals and 2 assists least season in only 1550 minutes. He's also significantly faster than Clarke.

How many PL goal contributions has 25 year old Jack Clarke got? 4 assists, 0 goals. And he's 5 years older, and nowhere near the speed and athleticism of Talbi. And Talbi will get better, I'm not convinced Clarke will.

He was a very good player for us in the Championship, don't get me wrong. But if he came back here it shouldn't be anything more than as a sub. Re-signing Jack Clarke isn't going to be financially rewarding and it won't improve out starting 11.

Dragan Šolak on Ross Stewart's future:

“We had to initiate the [one year] option up to five days after the last game of the season, and we were out of the five days when our final got cancelled.

"When we knew there was no last game, we immediately sent the notice of the extension, but his lawyers say that they're disagreeing with us.

"Ultimately, it's on Ross and his team to basically decide whether they want to stay or not. In my opinion, nobody would be better for Ross than us.

"We worked hard to allow him physically to show how good he is. He went from a guy who didn't play for two years to be invited to the World Cup team.

"I'm really proud of that. If he wants to try his luck somewhere else, I can't stop him, but I would love to have him back. We have made an effort to keep him."
Surely neglectful that they didnt arrange well earlier?

Maybe they didnt fancy him in the prem but happy to keep as a championship club?

Begs the question why they did not exercise their option earlier. Maybe they intended turfing him out if they got promoted.

Nothing against Southampton fans but their club is rotten at present.
