Ross Stewart

In a parallel universe where safc have done what we've done this season, and people suggest signing Rob Stobart on a free from Southampton, a decent but injury prone striker; or Jeff Clough, Ipswich English winger who's prone to moments of magic but is just top of championship ability, people would claim they're not good enough for the level we're now at

What the fuck are you on about

Normally I would say he owes them. They stuck by him and waited for his injuries to subside. The problem is that thanks to Southampton cheating he’s been denied a chance to play at the highest level so probably doesn’t feel any loyalty and wants to go after the best offer he can get. If he takes the option of 1 more year it’ll be at championship level and I reckon Southampton are going to have an awful time of the next year.
Its not like they had much choice in the matter like, they paid £10m for him, what else could they do?

Doesnt have much loyalty does Stewart!

Would still have him back
You cant blame any of the Southampton squad for wanting out. Playing for that club next season is going to be a tough gig , the abuse they are going to get at every ground. Surely there's a get out for all of them , in contract or not. The conduct of officers of the club , manager ,coaches etc , gives them a reason to demand their contracts be torn up.

If he was available on a free then get him in for me, low wages in comparison to the rest of signings we would make and he would be a useful backup. we all know his qualities and i think he would be a good premier league backup option to brobbey.

They were going to get rid of him if they went up. So there'd have been no loyalty from the club.

True I suppose. Plus it's likely his last chance to play for one of the big Scottish teams and win something - maybe that will play a part.

But at the same time you'd be canny pissed off as a saints fan if he does leave when he's finally got fit and scoring again.

No chance Southampton will be offering him on same or better terms

At best . It will be an offer from Southampton on the lines of “ we really want you stay so we’re offering you a short contract on less money “,

Taking him back on a free now would be incredible business

Would be an incredible option up front

Really?????

He missed 86 games and only played in 40 games for Southampton.

Missed the major part of each of the 3 seasons he was there due to injury.

Played 12 PL games with one goal.

What part of those stats for an injury prone striker who's done absolutely nothing at PL level suggests we should take him and his fragile hanstrings on and actually give him a wage ?

We did great business selling LND for £10m. I wouldn’t waste a penny of it paying him a salary.

I loved him here..... but no question that he's very much ' yesterday's man ' and would be of zero use in our squad.
