Great for us but another one who thought the grass was greener.

Club has made some of these transfers decisions look a bit silly.
Well in terms of financial security and enrichment the grass clearly was much greener. We took a punt on him and got him very cheap and his wages were minimal.
He massively improved his finances by moving and surely no one would begrudge him or any young man doing it for himself and his family.
Let’s face it he was injured prior to leaving and has been so for much of the team since he left. The club medicos must have known there was a rabbit away injury wise. We did very well with him while he played and we made a great profit. We may have missed the fit version of him, we definitely did not miss the perennially injured version
I just don’t get the snide dig re greener grass

Wish him well, gutted for the lad, what a player he could have been without the injuries. 100% the club did the right thing selling for £10M - he was never going to be the player he was, he was never going to get the contract offer he was after, from us; and he has set himself up financially with the move. The only losers from this are Southampton, but it was a risk they were willing to take to try and get the player he was for us, to get them back into the EPL. Our medical team knew it, he knew it, and Southampton medical team probably knew it - but it was a risk they were willing to take.

He'll leave Southampton at the end of his contract, £4M richer, and either retire, or go play back in Scotland at a lower level. I still believe if he hadn't got injured during that Fulham game, we'd have gone up that year under Tony. But would we have been in the position we are now, with the funds available, to do what we did this summer? Who knows.

Looks like they may have been wrong mind , unless its all in his head , which can also happen when they subconsciously dont trust the body

I remember when I ruptured my medial ligament and was out playing sports for ages. Felt like I couldn't get rid of the pain and the weakness. Physio said, as far as I can professionally tell, there is nothing wrong with your ligament anymore, I think it's in your head. So agreed to play a game of footy, within 15 an absolute bruiser of a centre half went through the back of me, bad knee first at 100mph when I tried to hold up the ball. I literally landed on my shoulder blades. Nothing happened and from then on I couldn't feel the weakness or pain anymore. So it's deffo does happen and considering what happened to him was worse and more than once, it's possible.

I’m glad he made the move when he did. The player we had at the start of the championship season isn’t the same player he is now.

It got us a good transfer fee and also got him a good wage, for the first time in his career.

Not yet, but doesn't look a patch on the player we had here
he's not played regularly for like 2 years?
it will take quite a few games to get back into it, if he hasn't lost anything with all the injuries or he doesn't fall over and hurt himself again.

Thats all correct. Nothing against the bloke but same as Clarke, don't get why people do constant updates about how they're getting on.

We've far surpassed them now and they aren't our players and didn't want to be here. Thats fair enough and their decision, don't see why fans care so much about how they do.

Course he was. Doesn't change the fact that he wanted to go though and it bizarrely gets people angry if you don't care about ex players on here.
Why would you not be interested in ex players careers?

Since 22/23 till 24/25 season when he joined us been out 710 days and missed 110 games.
Dont think he has ever played regulary.

I don't think it was a case of this at all- when they offered us 10 million up front, even though he was still injured- we pushed him straight out of the door. He hadn't played for us for nearly a year and you just couldn't turn that sort of money down for him. I don't think whether he wanted to go or not is the issue (and even if so, they were a better option than us at the time, a footballer's career is finite). There was none of this petulant Isak nonsense, we were offered what we wanted and we waved goodbye, nice and dignified.
I think everyone agreed with this at the time tbh (even more so as the months went by and he didn't appear to be able to get over his injury). The problem was that we didn't replace him properly for another year.

Considering how much of career he has lost (which would have happened with us) you cannot blame him for taking as much money as he could anyway

They were part of a very important historical team for the club, we might want to forget about our time in league one, but they are the players that dragged us out of it (and it was a close run thing as well- we scraped up by the playoffs). If that hadn't happeed we wouldn't be 4th in the PL right now.

as long as an ex player is always respectful about the club then I'm always happy to hear about how they are getting on. And some players from some squads are just a bit special- even if we've surpassed them
