Ross Stewart

Russel Martin has said he's unlikely to be seen for a couple of weeks yet as they want to ease him in. Surely if they want to ease him in the way to do that is in friendlies. This way he'll be eased straight in to the intensity of premier league games? Recipe for disaster surely?

" Ease him in "?

He went there ten months ago, and despite all the medical and physio treatment he's had, they can't risk him in a friendly against Eastleigh Town?

Seems like the lad has had his day, sad to say.

I liked him for us, it'll have been his best time as a player.
I didn't care for the way he delayed being honest about his intentions to leave us. but when all is said and done we got top dollar for a player who's on a downward trajectory in his career.

Pleased it's Southampton who are shelling out £30k a week in wages for RS and not us.

He wasn't though until Fulham away.

Correct, the lad had hardly missed a game for us up to that point. A real shame for the lad who I thought after the lad at Coventry was the best CF in the Division. If they get him fit and want him out on loan till Jan I would take him tomorrow.

I don't blame him at all for how he handled the situation. This was his only chance at getting a bumper contract and as someone approaching late 20s it was a chance to set up his family for years. We'd have all done the same. Shame it looks like he can't seem to get himself hit to have a crack at premier league football, but he's made sure his family are sorted and for that i admire him

absolutely and SAFC handled it very well to get such a large fee for an injured player..
the club and stewart won...southampton lost

He was injured when we signed him

Something obviously changed in the promotion season. He played an absolutely ridiculous amount of minutes.

Maybe that didn't help and he was overused.
As has been said the lge 1 promotion Season was his best run of games in his professional career.

Hes played over 30 games in three other seasons though, earlier in his career when not as effective and maybe wasnt always a first choice. You can't disregard those just because he played over 50 in the promotion season where he was overused.

He's had a terrible run since the hamstring injury and then achillies here, but its simply not true to suggest he was injury prone before that.

Loved him me like, thought after that playoff final he was firing us back to the big time. I heard something from a good source that when he signed for Southampton he got 25k a week and if they got promoted his wages doubled. The lads set for life now. Injured or not.

He missed about three or four game i think when he first signed for us but he was rarely injured in his time up to the Fulham game.

Aye I agree mate. I think we were lucky to get rid of him when we did for that much. Reckon his career is going to be stop/start now for the foreseeable.
Hindsight make us all billy big balls ! lets not turn what was a stroke of good luck for us and poor luck for southampton into some sort of mechavelian master stroke on behalf of speakman .cos it wasn't!!Lets see what he does next season shall we?
