Ross Stewart

So you can pre-empt a player moving and buy his replacement(s) beforehand? It’s called good planning and it’s what all the well ran clubs do - don’t let your players leave until an adequate replacement is through the door first.
You do if you know they’re knackered and can’t believe someone has agreed to sign him despite his medical

Did the bid come in 10 mins before the end of the window?

Of course not - the club knew about this weeks before and that’s what we used to pay for aouchiche, Rusyn and Pembele on deadline day. Problem is early signs are the 4 strikers we did sign just aren’t good enough
I’m not sure you know. I think they could have been worried about the medical and ring fenced the Stewart funds in case it didn’t come off.

I think we spent the money we got for the lad we surprisingly sold for a canny profit to the Saudi’s (whose name I can’t even remember).

He’s going to have a Kieron Dyer style career isn’t he.

Him scoring at Wembley seems so long ago now

Sadly you would say he looks finished first the torn thigh muscle, then an Achilles injury now a bad hamstring can’t see him making it back to the same level.

We had no idea if anyone would even sign him. In an ideal world he would have been sold early in the window or had talks with a buyer in advance to know what sort of fee they'd be look at. Because of his injury we were unfortunately left in limbo until the last min when Southampton took a gamble.
West ham didn't have a replacement in for rice, villa didn't when grealish went, spurs didn't when selling kane etc
We didn’t, no. But the football club will have done, without doubt. Are you saying that Southampton only registered their initial interest and concluded the full deal on on deadline day?!!

Was Rice West Ham’s only senior midfielder? Was Grealish Villa’s only senior attacker? Was Kane Spurs only senior centre forward? All had capable deputies waiting to step in, Sunderland didn’t.

Not even a recurrence of the same injury is it? Just pure bad luck on his part hardly like he's broken down with the same identical injury and isn't going to play again
Exactly. Still every chance he will recover and go on to be a good signing for them.

Although if they go up next season it’s going to be difficult to come back from 18 months out to get into a PL team. Maybe a cheeky loan bid next season!
