Everything in Washington identifies itself as Newcastle. Premier Inn, Holiday Inn and Campanile hotels in Ayton. George Washington Golf Course and Hotel. The big parcel depot near B&Q. Spire Hospital is covered in Tyneside wall art. There's even a takeaway in Harraton called Tyne Pizza. Literally roll down the hill in Harraton and you'll eventually roll into the Wear!

A lass at work was massively triggered when I mentioned washington is in sunderland (she lives there). I corrected her a few times per the facts i.e
that she literally lives in sunderland, but she was adamant it's not sunderland. ('ne post code' etc). It got really awkward so I just had to let it go rather than unpack the whole thing. Weird

It's usually measured from the town hall in any town or city.
