Roker near Sunderland

And (she) at the same time no doubt will class Tynemouth and Whitley Bay as Newcastle, which they aren’t.
Bloody right !!!
I moved to Whitley Bay just over 2 years ago, would never say I live in Newcastle.
But, NUFC's fortunes have rocketed since I came up here.
The explosion of black & white shirts, regalia etc. is remarkable.
There are loads of outsiders (like myself) who are quite happy for it not be part of Newcastle...

North Shields is nearly all black and white mind. I lived in Longbenton and that’s north Tyneside means nowt really, it’s almost completely nufc. Outside of SR postcode Our strong beds are Durham and south Tyneside, that’s all there is too it really.

Watched a property programme on the telly today, there were three houses. One near Bishop Auckland, one somewhere else that I cannot remember, the other in Sunderland. They mentioned Sunderland once, every other mention of the Sunderland house was "the tyne and Wear house". You could bet your last Tonali dollar that if the house was in newcastle they would be newcastle newcastle newcastle with a couple of toons in for good look. Twats.

Was it Bishop Auckland near Newcastle? And Tyne and Where?

The same on any programme really.

One about Penshaw Monument recently only geographically referred to it as ‘looking over the ex Durham coalfields’. Not one mention about the fact it is situated in the City of Sunderland.

Silly clownshoe folk on Facebook anarl who live in Washington, Houghton or County Durham instead putting ‘lives in Newcastle Upon Tyne’.

Just been to Portugal 🇵🇹 @Becs @Amber @CPLforever @look out piano

Three people asked me where I came from all had heard of Sunderland 👍 😎

This no one knows where or has never heard of Sunderland is bollocks, in my experience. I always say I’m from Sunderland if asked (although I live in Durham city) and of course any one who follows football always know of it.
The mags really struggle with regional geography don’t they

Should do one of those sarcastic maps pointing out places that aren’t Newcastle…….like the one they did for Russia

Yes same here just back from my hols and all heard of Sunderland.

I know a scouser who thought Sunderland was on tyneside! He isn't into football. In the 70's me mate was seeing a girl from newcastle and when we took our canoes up to Durham she came with us. Even though she was a really clever lass she thought Durham was on a tributary of the tyne and thought Sunderland was just a port and never knew there was a river running through it.

Not in Sunderland according to a South Shields based mag girl at work. Not "real Sunderland" until you cross the Wearmouth bridge she says.
Absolutely true the ancient settlement of Sunderland is located on the south side of the river.

Us Northsiders don't want you southern lot in our football stadium or on or beaches. There's even a move to change the name of the team to Seaburn AFC. 😉
