Roker near Sunderland

I've caved in and had to reply
There's another thickie who agrees with her and says he lives in penshaw and says it's in Durham. Someone pointed out he had 'Lives in Sunderland'on his bio 🤣, old account apparently. Bit like flat earthers from all around the globe

Sunderland ends at the A19 imo.

Houghton Le Spring is Houghton Le Spring
Washington is Washington
Penshaw is Penshaw

Just because someone drew some lines in 1974 doesn't automatically make it part of it imo. It's not in Co. Durham nowadays either.

It's the same as Whickham and Birtley aren't Gateshead, Throckley and Dinnington aren't Newcastle and Wetherby, Otley and Guiseley aren't Leeds. They're in the metropolitan borough though.

What about New Herrington, very much Sunderland for me.

Always feels like it's own place from an outsider. I tend to go off the green belt as they're there to stop the cities from taking over other places and New Herrington is on the wrong side.

They're like the places just outside Sunderland with Seaham, Whitburn, Houghton, Murton, the Hetton's, the Raintons etc. I know some will disagree but just my opinion, they're allover the place though some in Co. Durham, some in South Tyneside and the rest in the City of Sunderland. Fenceshouses, in particular, is a right mess being split in half. Kind of agree with the poster above they're all like a Greater Sunderland.

Washington is it's own beast, as it's kinda Gateshead, kinda Sunderland, kinda Co. Durham, not Newcastle.

Id agree with this except county Durham will always stretch from tees to tyne for me like.

Got nothing to do with the a19, that was put there and it split Washington road up which is in Sunderland and where nissan now sits for example. Herrington park directly opposite the monument is also in Sunderland. Its Sunderland but a few old gannies online are getting the hump because they want to live in Durham or they are mags
