RLODC - Durham 2022

I've never suggested otherwise. As I've said I praised and thanked Martin for his information as we don't get to hear much officially from the club. If the information was given to him in good faith from the club, then why aren't the club releasing the information to members/fans first? He will never admit the information is leaked for obvious reasons, as is the case with all things (was rife yesterday round the ground). He's doing a good job this season and feel his reporting is more of truer/fair reflection of events. It's a shame he knew nothing about the members forum last week as I feel he could have added a lot of value to the questions which were asked. All very bizarre as I was stood right in front of him yesterday when he was talking to a friend before the game and he said nothing and he knows who I am. He is way off the mark if he feels I'm criticising him though but he's entitled to his opinion.
You've never suggested otherwise what? This is copied exactly from what you wrote last night "Ironically the club released an injury update during the game today, a day after Martin Emmerson tweeted the news he clearly gets leaked by staff at the club". That's pretty clear to me.

And I'm not sure how he would have been able to talk to you about it yesterday when you only started mentioning leaks last night, after the game.

You said ".Poor communication and things being "leaked" are two different things" - I don't disagree.

From the club email:

‘The visitors were outstanding with the ball to bowl out Durham for 181 from only 40.2 overs’

😂😂😂
Killeen said in the post match interview that the par score on that wicket was around 300

   Canny spin that. More a case of we were absolutely shit with bat and ball.

Don't then, off you pop

He’s got a point like. As has Marty.

What do you expect the club to write in their own report?

“We were shite”

If the par score on a pitch is 300 and the team batting first has been dismissed for just over half of that, it’s one of two things isn’t it ;).

You and I both know it would substandard batting, but an official club report from any sporting institution being ‘favourable’ towards themselves in their reporting isn’t exactly a new thing

My point was that anyone who watched it would know why we only got 181. I don’t expect they club would say we were shite, maybe that we need to improve or something more constructive. Supporters are not stupid (well most of them!)

It feels almost like Lee Johnson’s ‘we won the game between the boxes’ after we were twatted at Hillsborough last season. We play on a pitch 115yds long, not just the bit in the middle 😁

Anyway, I’m hoping that some good might come of it. Trev and Mackintosh had fine innings, Rushy bowled reasonably well and with more luck and better fielding could have got us the early wickets we needed. Let’s just put it behind us and move on. Still plenty to play for 😁

I’m not even disagreeing, just trying to add some rationale to why that was the case.

With everything that’s been going on, it’s hardly worth getting worked up over.

Obviously now we know it was a shared price, which has been happening all season in all formats (certainly the BBC and Cricinfo close of play reports have been identical) for the most part.

Is it Marty doing it for Durham home games?

I know that many of the local newspapers have binned their cricket writers - which is a massive massive shame given the quality of them previously (the likes of Tim Wellock, Stu Rayner, etc).

Overall it’s yet another sad indictment of county cricket in the current day that the written media outlets simply won’t/can’t pay for proper independent coverage.

Excellent communication from the club.
Do you disagree that Martin Emmerson reporting stuff that he finds out from the club doesn't mean that someone from the club is "leaking" information?

Well if he finds it out from the club then that obviously isn't leaking but how do we know what he isn't and what is getting from the club? He's a journalist and doesn't have to reveal where he gets his information from which again is fine. He's good at what he does though, he's saying it as it is this season which is refreshing. I'm still baffled with his reaction to be honest given I've praised him and thanked him for what he does.

It reflects badly on the club if the club are giving him (& others) information before releasing it officially themselves, sometimes a good while after. Not all members have twitter for example and rely solely on the club for information.

The club do a lot of things well such as the free entry for the game in a couple of weeks, the T20 signing sessions, pricing....... but communication is poor across the club and it's not just myself saying that and has been for years.

In a world of social media dominance and the ability to update a website from virtually anywhere on any mobile device, it shouldn't be difficult to knock up basic articles about goings on at the club/injury updates/how some are doing in the NEPL/promotions/squad news in advance/advertise YouTube videos better/promote the club shop more. Someone implied some articles need authorisation before released, whoever authorises that needs a kick up the arse. The club are very good at advertising Diana Ross on the website/social media network though I'll give them praise for that, if that can be replicated into the above then things would better in that area.

Lancashire released a statement the other day about the Strauss plan....... I'm hoping Durham can comment on that soon and possibly engage with members.

See how it goes I guess.

I suspect it's because it comes across like you're playing him off against the club and given he's worked with the club for years and parts of his job depend on a good working relationship it's understandable he has no interest in being associated with your criticism of the club

Hopefully they still have a good working relationship as he's key for information given it's poor from the club. It's a shame be didn't host the members forum the other week which he said he knew nothing about when it was announced.
