Ripping off other tunes

When I write a song I can completely cut off from any melody I've ever heard, McCartney can do the same where as parts of Lennon's solo stuff reminds me of other songs.

Never realised how alike the start of these two songs were.

Love Matt so I'm saying it's a nod of approval.

In interviews though McCartney recalls spending time playing melodies of new songs with band mates and others to double check he hasn't (even accidentally) ripped off another song. Yesterday, being an example.
