RIP Ricky Hatton

As said above, its one to respect the achievements and the memories - nicely done, Ricky. RIP

Great boxer and he always came across as good lad and very down to earth. Did he have a carpet shop or I am getting him mixed up with somebody else?

Awful that his mental health issues came to a head in this incredibly sad way 😢

We don't know yet, his last video on instagram had him training/sweating for comeback thing in december. will his heart be to take it after the drink & drugs and his age now.

RIP hitman

Are you thinking of his Jewelry & Landscaping company? Hatton's Garden.

(Sorry, not trying to be disrespectful. I'd just rather smile than be sad)

Must be hard for a sportsman once their career ends . How do you replace that adulation and notoriety?
One minute your on top of the world , the next your just another bloke with very little direction .
Rip
Tony Jeffries has put out a big tweet along these exact lines.

I’m still gutted today about Hatton. I’m not even the biggest boxing fan, but Ricky just seemed one of life’s genuine good fellas that had the time of day for other people and cared about other people.

It’s normally drink and drugs ain’t it. RIP Ricky I hope it wasn’t what we all fear as I know he’d struggled with his mental health over the years. He was some fighter though not since bruno had a boxer united a nation like the hitman did in his prime. A normal bloke both for the good and the bad he showed his vulnerability as a man which must have been hard to do as a bloke in a hard tough sport and a man of my generation we were brought up that showing emotion etc was “gay” and a weakness. Hope you’ve found peace mate.

Remember seeing his face when he bought an only fools inspired robin. He drove it into the gym on one of those inside boxing things 😂 he seemed like just a normal bloke.

Probably my favourite boxer of all time….watching that body punch thinking ‘fuck being on the end of that, I’d be in two pieces’
RIP legend

I think that Mayweather fight is probably the last time I ever stayed up for a fight.

Box office. The scenes and support in Vegas looked incredible. Alas, it wasn't to be and Mayweather played it beautifully.

RIP Ricky.
I was in the MGM about 8 years ago and got chatting to an employee in there, he said he’d been there for decades, seen the likes of hagler, Hearns, Tyson etc pass through and had never seen anything like Hatton and his fans. Incredible support.

Was genuinely blindsided when I got a few messages about this yesterday.

Absolutely awful news and there will probably never be another athlete like him again in terms of the deeply personal adoration he inspired amongst his fanbase. RIP champ

Had his documentary saved for a while and just watched it tonight.

Anyone seen it and what did they make of it?

Can’t work out if his dad was a dodgepot or if he was just protecting Ricky when he went global.

Very sad watch knowing what has happened to him.

Dodgepot IMO. Only really got into boxing towards the latter part of Hatton's career and he often came across as someone who saw Ricky as a commodity first and a son second at that time, and the documentary just reinforced it for me.

Apparently there was another big fallout between them as a result of how Ray was portrayed so it sounds as though the documentary reopened and deepened old wounds unfortunately. Just hope for the family's sake that they managed to patch things up somewhat before this happened.

You’ve pretty much confirmed what I was thinking tbh.

Even his mam piping in saying how they made Billy a very rich man. Well aye, you might have, but that doesn’t mean you can not pay him what he’s entitled to.

I think you can tell Hatton was gutted about the fallout and that his dad basically lied about where some of the money was going.

Maybe his parents convinced him to get rid of Billy aswell which never sat well with him deep down.
