RIP dad

So my dad passed away at 1655 today. We knew it was likely to be today and I planned to watch my last game with him even though we would only be there in body. Whatever happened today I was going to tell him that Luke had just lashed a screamer into the top corner to win it and we've finished 7th and are in Europe.

So I had the game on the laptop and the lads did us proud - He was unconscious and sedated and passed peacefully. I hope he heard some of my dodgy commentary. This was our 50th year of following the lads together. What a milestone.

He told me he picked out Sunderland in a 1956 FA cup draw at school which lead him to follow them. I'm not sure that's true as his dad and grandparents were from Shildon and Canny Hill..Either way I'm glad he did and passed that down to me.

Joanne Youngson was amazing and got me some Heaven Branch grass clippings in 24 hours so he had those on his pillow this afternoon. Thank you so much Joanne.

Sorry for this post, I just wanted to share the news that another MLF has passed.

He won't be here next week for Chelsea but I'lll still run through the match report with him. Cancer sucks. Haway the dad x

RIP Cabbage Senior
It’s wonderful how our lives are shaped with our Dads through football. Hope I go with the lads winning… as it’s the best feeling in the world

Your Dad would have heard every word of your commentary today and will now be resting in peace very content knowing that we could be in Europe next season. So sorry for your loss, mate.

Sorry for your loss. My dad (also a lifelong Sunderland fan) died of cancer earlier this year. It’s a terrible thing to watch happen.

He went to the Sporting Lisbon game in 1973, our only European away fixture. I’m hoping we get something similar for next season (but won’t be too disappointed if it doesn’t work out), the timing would be fitting.

When we beat the mags away I was almost literally reaching for the phone to call him and then remembered. That type of thing will happen to you too, I’m sure.

Condolences, all the best to you and your family and take care.

Very sad news mate. Lost my Dad on day we won Pizza Cup 5 years ago . Huge loss and not a day goes by when I don't think of him.
Sincere condolences

Glad you spent your final moments together sharing the football, I'm sure he heard on some level. Sorry for your loss. My dad passed away 2 years ago last week and I still hope he's seeing how well things are going this year.

Love to all of your family and everyone impacted by his sad departure.
