RIP dad

So my dad passed away at 1655 today. We knew it was likely to be today and I planned to watch my last game with him even though we would only be there in body. Whatever happened today I was going to tell him that Luke had just lashed a screamer into the top corner to win it and we've finished 7th and are in Europe.

So I had the game on the laptop and the lads did us proud - He was unconscious and sedated and passed peacefully. I hope he heard some of my dodgy commentary. This was our 50th year of following the lads together. What a milestone.

He told me he picked out Sunderland in a 1956 FA cup draw at school which lead him to follow them. I'm not sure that's true as his dad and grandparents were from Shildon and Canny Hill..Either way I'm glad he did and passed that down to me.

Joanne Youngson was amazing and got me some Heaven Branch grass clippings in 24 hours so he had those on his pillow this afternoon. Thank you so much Joanne.

Sorry for this post, I just wanted to share the news that another MLF has passed.

He won't be here next week for Chelsea but I'lll still run through the match report with him. Cancer sucks. Haway the dad x
RIP your Dad.
Touching words, bon courage.

First and foremost, I'm really sorry for your loss.

Secondly, having lost a number of relatives recently, and no longer being a spring chicken or in the best health myself, I think that over time that you realise that when it comes to being a football supporter, all that really matters is the connections you make with people - especially those closest to you - along the way. It's not about league tables or cup wins, but the moments of connection it gives you, through the various life stages, through the good times and the bad, are special. I'm glad that right until the end, and I'm sure for many years in the future, that connection you have with your Dad will still be going strong. And in that way he lives on, through you. In time you'll be able to look back on that and I'm sure it will give you great comfort.

Take care, and look after yourself.

Sorry for your loss mate.

When I was younger I thought football was just a game and a sport.

Hearing stories like this and my own similar experiences have taught me as I've got older that it's so much more.

We go and support the lads standing on the shoulders of family who once upon a time introduced us to it, and their spirit stays with us while we also pass it down to our kids and grandkids etc.

It's a special thing and hearing stories like yours just reinforces that. Hope we get a result next week and your Dad is shouting for us from up there.

Sorry for your loss, as someone who has gone through this process and pain of close bereavement, I think your courage and compassion is admirable and your Dad will be there with all the MLF cheering us on from heaven ❤️‍🩹👍❤️
