Retirement

My mam is 73 and keeps going away on holiday, just laid her own wooden floor, all sorts. I’m hoping I’ll be that active at the same age.

About the same age as my parents, and they're away all the time. Probably do 3 foreign trips a year, and another 3 or 4 uk breaks on top of that, then just days out all over the place.

I had a stroke December 2019 and luckily not too bad compared to some but worse than others.
I get my state pension in may and get a drawdown from my sipp as I pulled my lot out of a DB pension.
Some will say stupid thing to do but it's worked well for me.
Luckily I'd paid off the mortgage just a couple of months before the stroke.
Appologies the pension I took out was a final salary one. I'd left the company 15 years prior and was on crap wages but when I got the figures through I decided to take the whole lot out and put it in a sipp.

Mine is 78, hasn't been abroad for about 12-15 years, aunt is the same, in laws haven't seem abroad for years, obviously there are exceptions. I know a lad who's grandparents go skiing. Be nice to still do all that but I'd sooner retire sooner than work another 5 years on the off chance I'm still that active into my 70's

I have a question, not about retirement but pensions
Recently I had to leave my job through health reasons
Luckily I am 55 in 10 days time so I could access 2 separate workplace pensions if I wanted to
One of the pensions is bigger than the other and growing at a fast rate while the smaller one is growing at a moderate pace
I am thinking of going into partial drawdown on one of them(ppe)I think it’s called to withdraw a small amount and leave the rest invested
I am no financial expert but so I suppose my question is which would be the best pension to access if I chose do do so
I am also receiving universal credit at the moment so would I have to inform them ?or can I withdraw a certain amount from my pension so it would not affect my claim?

I’d agree with that sentiment. I would retire today if I could

Very interesting thread this one…

I’m currently looking at whether/how missus and me can retire at 60 (50 yo at present). I’ve had a couple of consultations with an IFA (The Private Office) there’ll be a point soon where I have to decide whether to go forward with their services.

Have people found that these IFA type of services are indispensable? My head is full questions about the right combo of mortgage overpayment, upping pension contributions, other investment options, tax efficiency.

My hunch is to engage with them so they can keep me on the right track, still part of me wonders whether I can research and manage things myself. Have others found IFA’s good value for money for this type of scenario?

Thanks in advance

Probably depends on how much money you have. The more you have the more complex it gets, the greater the need for an expert

Worth watching a few of this blokes vids

retirement and my pensions have been a thing i've thought about recently. just spent a week on the sick with a knackered foot and i've been bored shitless. tbh, it does frighten me a bit not having stuff to do. i've always thought that keeping the mind active is just as important as the body.
i've been laid up so couldn't do much but there's only so much tinkering you can do. tbh, i'm looking forward to getting back to work.

I'm an accountant and was happy for someone with the right specialist skills to advise me and they've done a great job. Leeds based mind but happy to recommend.

I talked to 3 from one of the comparison sites and chose the one I got on with best who had some good ideas. 8 years with them so far and they are mediating the financial side of the divorce as part of their service so are saving me a few thousand pounds as well.
