Removing wallpaper backing

I've seen that said elsewhere but seems like a right faff on. Won't the steamer do that but quicker?

Need it off for the plasterer unfortunately

Nah man. It takes two seconds. Stick a piece of plastic over the floor at the bottom of the wall. Ask the missus where she keeps the mop and bucket. Fill bucket with warm water and washing up liquid. Stick mop in bucket and then apply to wall as if you were mopping a floor. Leave for a few minutes to really soak in and then unleash your big scraper.

Second advantage is that it gives the skirting boards a good clean before they get repainted!

Just noticed that you are having the walls plastered. Once all the paper is off, use the same method to clear any dirt or glue residue off the walls.

No kids or wife to do it?
They've left me for a Sunderland fan

This seems incredibly efficient and a laugh at the same time

Score it with the side of your scraper, you are getting the wall redone so any marks shouldn't be a problem. The score marks should go through to the wall then wet it and leave it to soak in. The paper either side of the marks should start to darken a bit as the water soaks through. Repeat then scrape off.

Just stir 1 cap-full liquid softener into 1 liter water and sponge the solution onto the wallpaper. Let it soak in for 20 minutes, then scrape the paper from the wall. If the wallpaper has a water-resistant coating, score it with a wire-bristle brush before treating with the fabric softener solution.

Or just use the steamer.
Go on niceonelad get the fuckers telt

Once the top paper is off, what's the quickest way to get the backing paper off to allow for the wall to be replastered?
Will it be best off just using the steamer again?

You need a Stanley knife, some tough kitchen roll and a wall paper scraper

Score the wallpaper in a horizontal formation using the Stanley knife...the more the better

Soak the tough kitchen roll in water and apply it to the scored wallpaper. Layer it over the top over the paper

Give it 15-30mins to soak in the paper

Start at the bottom of the paper with the scraper

The paper will literally drop off the wall

Nitemare job ....... better of just moving house :eek::eek:

Either that or hot soapy water and a good scraper will do the job but let it soak in first
