Removal Men. Is this unreasonable?

I'll be moving shortly. Our lass wants to use Low Fell Removals as she's heard they're very good.

Any sensible comments? I know they can be more expensive than others but had hoped that is because they are very professional. We'll be needing suites, beds etc dismantling and reassembling at the new gaff.

Make sure you never let them leave your site when in transit. Ours did and then I got a call from the boss saying that they needed an extra 100 to finish the job as there was more than they thought.

They sharp came round when I told them I'd be on to the police for them stealing my stuff.
Leaving the site is the whole idea ;)

They were very good when they used to deliver furniture for Homeworthy.

It's a lass

Do what she says

I've had six offered so far on anyvan.

£250 cheapest, £300 most. Seems cheap.

Moving in about 4 weeks again and I am looking for a decent removal firm.

Last ones we had done nowt but moan about carrying stuff about despite their job basically being carrying stuff. They really started to take the huff when I told them I wouldn't be carrying owt and they had to do it themselves.

I will have shit loads to do on moving day so really can't be fucked with lugging boxes about.

Are you actually expected to help as I was under the impression that's what I was paying these for.

Working for a company that's core business is removals the crew should tell you not to touch a thing once its boxed. Of course you might be unlucky and get the bone idle bastards sent to you

Good company won't let you touch anything incase of breakages. You get what pay for mate, just choose a good firm to do the work.

Which is what we got the last time.

Which is what we got the last time.

It happens. Before they sold us we were part of Pickfords. There were some absolute nightmares in that place. Drivers would take the hump if they didn't get to do continental jobs and just sit huffy in the cab or fart about in the kitchens and some of the porters were well in their 60s and just not capable of the job. There were also some cracking lads, just the luck of the draw which ones you got.

Surely you could break everything before you box it.
:D

I almost started a removals business when I had my van, I offered to help a friend out and did lots of helping shifting stuff. Never EVER again.

Last time I moved, they did it all but I was generally running around doing the last minute bits and bobs like the bedding I used that night, last morning shower stuff, and giving the place a general clean once they had emptied a room.

That's practically the whole point of hiring removal men, so you can hoover/dust/clean the rooms while all the shit gets shifted.

Well aye, but all sorts of bits and shite gets scattered around when you're shifting furniture, you always need to give the rooms a good once over after they've been emptied.
Bet they still clean everything when they move in anyway.

A decent clean is enough for me.

We're moving (hopefully) on Saturday but not having it confirmed til Thursday.

Stuck it on anyvan and a got a quote for £282. I then got a call from a bloke from anyvan themselves asking if we wanted to proceed, explained we can't confirm til Thur, gave us his number to call back and said he would try honour that quote with who offered it when we get it confirmed.

Seemed canny, anyone used anyvan service before? The quote is from a bloke with 4 stars so seems decent enough.
