Removal Men. Is this unreasonable?

Removal men moaning because they have to move things? Go elsewhere.

What's next you get a plumber round and you have to fit the pipes?

If I'm paying someone to do something it's because I can't do it myself so if I got removal men round then I'd expect them to do it otherwise I would just do it myself in the first place.

It was a nightmare move, everything had to go down four flights of stairs, through a court yard, down a flight of stairs to the car park, across the car park then up the car park ramp to the street! That's the way I see it. My lass slipped them another £40 as she thought somehow that had been given a shitty job. I was livid.
 
Moving on Friday and doing it all myself. Hiring a van for £70 for 24 hours. A couple of trips and I should be done. Most of my stuff is boxed and I've shifted it up the mother-in-laws.

last time we moved , they moaned also about carrying boxes . 1 of the blokes that was working that day was fat & shouldn't have been doing it. we had the boxes labelled for the right room's they just wanted to dump in 1st room they came to, oh no thats upstairs etc they didn't like that, bet the fat bloke resigned he was shagged , totally out of breath and red faced

Exactly this. I've had experience of moving into houses that people have left a mess and people who have cleaned etc and it makes a world of difference the day you move into your new house. We always make it as nice as possible. In some cases people are moving into their 'dream'/'family' home and it's the least you can do to leave the place in a nice state.

We're moving at the moment, had three quotes for a 3 storey house, ranged between £800-£1200...we only looked to see if the removers we've used in the past were competitive, they charge £60 an hour and they said it will take no longer than 8 hours and I've gone with them before and I know they're good.
 
We used Nelson's of Durham last year and they were brilliant. The topic of whether I should do anything other than tell them what rooms stuff should go in never came up. At one point they had 8 lads on the job on an hourly rate. They even took a very heavy sofa over the top of a conservatory and in through a Juliet balcony because it wouldn't go up the stairs.

Last time I used one they told us it was "impossible" to get a table up 3 flights of stairs. Me and our kid did it in about 5 mins. They also said a bed couldn't go upstairs cos it was too big. We simply flipped it over and undid the catches so it split into two.
 
I used Harkers. They were very good. Price agreed upfront, 2 blokes came in and cracked on, non stop they were lifting and carrying everything out, didnt even want a cuppa when offered one.

Same here. I did it moving as a student, turned up in a new house only to find the place filthy. After all the hassle of packing and getting everything to where it needed to go we had to spend ages cleaning before we moved anything in.

Besides, last time I moved, when they shifted the draws and wardrobe out the bedroom, the amount of dust and fluff that had built up underneath was embarrassing. There was no way I was going to leave the room in that state without spending 10 minutes shoving the vacuum round.
