Removal Men. Is this unreasonable?

We're moving (hopefully) on Saturday but not having it confirmed til Thursday.

Stuck it on anyvan and a got a quote for £282. I then got a call from a bloke from anyvan themselves asking if we wanted to proceed, explained we can't confirm til Thur, gave us his number to call back and said he would try honour that quote with who offered it when we get it confirmed.

Seemed canny, anyone used anyvan service before? The quote is from a bloke with 4 stars so seems decent enough.
On what marra?

We recently used Low Fell at work to move to our new place. I was in the office sitting on the floor working on my laptop waiting for my desk and chair. As they were filling all the other offices up one of them popped their head in and said "You know it would be quicker if you gave us a hand like". I responded by saying "Aye mate, and it would be pointless me signing off on paying you if I do all the heavy lifting". Cheeky bastard.

Aye that's what I used the last time. See my op.

I've stuck it on there for a bit but not sure about using them again. I have put that I will not be lifting a finger on the day as well.

I've used anyvan for a move, quote was ridiculously cheap so I was a bit hesitant but took the gamble.

Guy turned up on the day and was spot on, would definitely use George from Zimbabwe again.

Anyvan aren't a removal firm, they are a tendering site for thousands of firms.

Moving in about 4 weeks again and I am looking for a decent removal firm.

Last ones we had done nowt but moan about carrying stuff about despite their job basically being carrying stuff. They really started to take the huff when I told them I wouldn't be carrying owt and they had to do it themselves.

I will have shit loads to do on moving day so really can't be fucked with lugging boxes about.

Are you actually expected to help as I was under the impression that's what I was paying these for.
You're exactly right in not carrying.
You drop something..no insurance coverage.
While assisting one of removalists gets injured they will sue you.
Keep well away and just point and direct.
Better still let your other half do it

had a couple of removal lads, shift our gear. They said they would not get a wardrobe upstairs.

I gave them a glass of water and up the stairs it,went no bother

leannes removals.

also used mackem mover to shift an old settee. The mag neighbours were well impressed to have their big van parked on me drive

I paid someone 200 to take all my shit away money well spent if only I could have given him this beautiful moon too.

I wouldn't use any company without going through 'checked and vetted'.

Hahaha! You do realise that companies PAY to be in Checked and Vetted?

You also know that companies can veto the (negative) comments from their customers if they disagree with them, and not allow them to be quoted?

I'll be moving shortly. Our lass wants to use Low Fell Removals as she's heard they're very good.

Any sensible comments? I know they can be more expensive than others but had hoped that is because they are very professional. We'll be needing suites, beds etc dismantling and reassembling at the new gaff.

When the council were doing work on my house we had to put stuff into storage. The lads worked like heroes and everything was done exactly as I asked. Ditto when they brought the stuff back. They even kept it all in storage for a couple of extra weeks as the decorator took longer than expected to finish so that delayed the carpet fitter.

It is to clean but not to go round as the removal men are taking stuff out. Just my opinion.

Good grief. I am moving from my council house to another council house but I will still go round making sure that everything is clean, any holes from mirrors and cupboards are filled and the paintwork is made good. If there's time I will also have the carpets cleaned. Surely it's about leaving the place as you would expect to find it?

That is a very dangerous assertion to make. Can you tell us how you can make it, not in general terms, or as in " I have heard that"?

I said it gets cleaned, thoroughly too with all furniture moved and put back etc. I do that on the days leading up not on the day itself.

I've also never paid anyone to move my house, I've got two brothers and amates who will always pitch in.

I got the best service from Bishop's when we moved from our 2 bed flat years ago. It was a nightmare move, everything had to go down four flights of stairs, through a court yard, down a flight of stairs to the car park, across the car park then up the car park ramp to the street! It was also pissing down with rain all day. Eight of them turned up but I still helped taking boxes down. Fair play to them, it was the hardest days graft I've ever done!
