Good God there are a lot of idiots on here!!! OK, he was relegated last season, but try to have the brains to look beyond the surface.
Before the 23/24 season, the most talented players were sold and with a boardroom in turmoil, there was little budget to buy decent replacements. Even with those setbacks, he was only relegated by the narrowest of narrow margins. In the previous season he managed to get the club to 10th with a young and unfancied side. This was by far their best finish and far higher than anyone expected. On the strength of that season he was in line for one of the top jobs in French football but compensation was a problem. Before all this help enjoyed great success managing younger sides and has a good record of youth development. The chances are that had it not been for the relegation, he would be a Head Coach out of our reach.
OK, I'm not saying he would have been my first, second, or even third choice, but the point is that this appointment is a bit more nuanced than it appears at first sight. I think he's a gamble, but possibly a calculated gamble. It would also have been easier and safer to stick to the usual Championship merry-go-round, but instead KLD has chosen to be a bit more ambitious. Fans also complained that the model needed to be more flexible to allow a new Head Coach to bring in his own people, and now we're learning that's exactly what's happening.
I realise this is a gamble, but I like the fact they're going for it rather than playing safe. I like the fact that they're adjusting the model to learn the lessons from last season. Our new Head Coach deserves a fair chance and he will get my full support.
