Regis le Bris - confirmed

That’s the point. They lost their best players by far. Then didn’t replace efficiently. The wage will be seriously boosted by Benjamin Mendy and Bakayoko. Two egos who caused problems in the dressing room. Didn’t replace their top scorer or best midfielder, two key positions

To be fair to Lorient, they brought in €37m from the sale of strikers and CB's and spent €25m on replacing those positions alone last summer.

They didn't pocket the money and leave him with an impossible job on his hands in which relegation was all but inevitable, which is the way most are seeing it.

This is an interesting point actually. I was quizzing my French mate on RLB at the kids football this morning. He referenced the recruitment and big money/wages of the likes of Mendy, when previously their policy was to develop. He said caused a bit of a ‘split in the group’. He didn’t know much as he supports Nice, but that was the observation as a general fan in France.

The OP you're replying to doesn’t have any evidence that there was dressing room upheaval and his squad was severely weakened.
It's a fair point you make, and people going on like he had the impossible job to keep them up.

Another interesting one:

Lorient scored ONE goal from a set piece last season, and conceded 14 from set pieces.

Given our issues with set pieces as a whole, it's a cause for concern.

I really don't think you can compare this guy with Moyes, who had a proven record at Everton. Hope I'm wrong but don't think he will last the season and KLD will be gone as well.
I think you can compare the two, the point he’s making is some managers work out at some clubs while others don’t.

Roy Keane is similar - popular here but unpopular at Ipswich.

Simon Grayson is similar - unpopular here but popular at Preston.

And so was Moyes prior to West Ham - unpopular here and at Man U but popular at Everton.

The point is that some managers just fit at certain clubs with a squad of players available - the board believe this man is that for us. They got it wrong with Beale, but right with Neil & Mowbray. I’m prepared to give him a chance and not take much note of Lorient fans.

And was it spent well? If you read up then definitely not.

We spent far more than we’ve done recently when Mowbray was in charge. Yet his team was far worse than the season before.

Just cos the club spends doesn’t mean the recruitment was right.

The last paragraph is bang on for how we've gone about overseas recruitment especially.
I'm genuinely excited by this appointment, an up and coming coach rather than someone on the managerial merry go round circuit.
It's been said already but his recent relegation didn't stop one of the biggest clubs in the world, Bayern Munich, from appointing Kompany.
'Up and Coming'?

You seem really positive about this appointment. It is because of that season he had in mid table in 22/23? Or is it because he previously worked in an academy role so it is assumed he will be comfortable at blooding youngsters?

Careful mate! Optimism on here is not welcome
