You can back the manager and club, but still be sceptical on this new lad given his limited top level experience. Not sure why that gets people so worked up.

Tbf there should be no pile on, you feel how you feel about it. I probably see too many positives in SAFC.

In fairness Bruce as well. I remember there being a poll on here when he appointed with regards to how underwhelmed everyone was over the appointment. I think more were ambivalent including myself. We played some good football and had a decent couple of years (derbies aside) 'til it went tits up again.

I tried finding the thread but the search didn't go back that far. I did find this post from myself mentioning it in 2011 though after Bruce was sacked....

We all want the team to be successful, and come at it from different ways. But I felt over the weekend when someone dared to question the signing it resulted in a pile on, citing them as being ultra negative.

I've still got concerns at his relative limited experience managing at the top level, and why it's taken him so long to get into that role. He's 48 and work has mainly been in youth development, so feels like he's a perfect academy manager rather than first team coach given his background.
But yeah the debate around it is tiresome now, and it's done so we'll just have to wait and see how it turns out.

That was last season and more likely to get 5 at the back when defending as they were struggling with the personnel changes.

The 2022/23 season he used;

4-2-3-1 (20 games)
3-4-3 (8 games)
4-5-1 (8 games)

It isn't slow and ponderous football from what all the stats I've seen indicate. I can't find it but I did see that someone had shown the Ligue 1 team style graphic (the one which plots passes per sequence against direct speed up field (in metres per second)) against the Championship one and the team they were closest to was Ipswich (rather than a slow and ponderous Hull for example). If you know the graphic I'm talking about then they were just inside the top left quadrant - more 'fast and direct' than 'slow and intricate' but in neither extreme.

Also for context, had they got the same amount of points in the 1st half of the 2023/24 season as they did in the 2nd half, they would have stayed up. Yes I know if my auntie had balls she would be my uncle. This means they improved 2nd half of last season. They had an awful run of tough fixtures in the run-in and only dropped by one goal, they went down by a flea's knacker in the end and nearly stayed up. They had to win 6-0 in the final game and won 5-0.

Havent the first idea of what to expect, to be honest, and find myself in a malaise given all that has gone on but those stats the poster.... posted would indicate it would look like Poyet at his worst.

The switch to what was described by the Chronicle seems to have come after last summer's sales. In other words, doing the best with what he had left.

I suspect we won't really see what he wants to do here until after the training camp in Spain.

Atleast that does show he has the ability to adapt to the situation. That in itself gives me enough to say he is worth giving a chance. Don’t get why people have wrote him off for a particular style when we don’t even know what style he will use here.

He's a very bright man (PhD in biomechanics and a diploma in mental training of high level athletes, both from Rennes University), so you'd think he'd have the brains to adapt.

Loads of football is slow and ponderous anyway. It can be a very dull game at times. I think people forget that.

That's interesting. I'd read on here they were in worse form than us at the back end of the season.

Well, if he did adapt, you cant really argue he did it well, as they went down?

Im sure every coach could adapt in that manner.
