Honestly don't know what you were watching mate. Have you ever played football at any sort of level? ... Saying Ozturk has all the atttibutes & physicals to make a great centre back ffs! He always looks off balance when he passes the ball. His reading of the game is poor & he looks 2 stone overweight. If you played like that in the Northern league you'd be hooked off.
I don't see how playing at Northern League level makes anyone a better judge of a player playing in League 1/Championship level.
Northern League is still just lads out on the beer the night before and kick & rush footy the next day

Some people need to look at how awful Jaap Stam was in his first season at Manchester Utd and what a tremendous Centre Back he was after that. Admittedly Ozturk is no Stam but with more confidence and better decision making he should easily cope at this level.
Marra, this is no criticism at all but I liked the fact that Stam was poor and improved so looked into it.

These are quotes

"I couldn’t have wished for a better first season in England; winning the Premier League, the FA Cup and then the climax to it all. I remember looking at the Camp Nou clock as the minutes counted down. It looked bad but Teddy Sheringham and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer scored in the best two minutes of my whole career. We had a brilliant party that night to celebrate"

He was also in PFA team of the year

And he got better?

We started with no recognised striker and played that way for 60+ minutes.

Our approach play, pace, desire and interpassing was at times superb and we played Wednesday off the park for long periods......At one point in the second half we had 85% possession.

Hugely impressed with a number of players

Keeper, gonna put this out there that if we had had a keeper of this quality last season we would still be in the Championship, that is how badly we were managed.

Power looks superb, strolled through this game and did everything right.

Baldwin looks a class act.

McGuire is a right handful and is going to cause some real damage when he has strikers to provide for. Some questioned his performances and desire last season but he is proving that his form at Oxford was not a fluke

We have a crop of youngsters who are easily able to compete at this level....Some cracking footballers who are able to fit into Ross's high energy style of play and all will benefit from games like this......Many are currently squad players but they proved tonight that they are more than adequate.

Best have seen Cattermole for a long long time (still not worth the wage and hope that tonight will prompt interest)

We played cracking, high pressure football with at times sublime interpassing and arguably our best players are not in the team yet.

If this was a show of the way the players are adapting to Jacks style of play then I suspect there are some teams in league one going to be in for a tonking this season. Gonna put it out there that with a target man/striker partnership in there tonight we would have won that game at a canter.

Downside Osturk but not going to judge too quickly, has the attributes and physical presence to make a great centre back, will undoubtedly improve as the weeks go by and lets be honest he is not going to be playing while the first choice lads are fit.

All in all, another good night, starting to really see what Jack is trying to do and why his St Mirren side were seen as being so impressive.

Roll on Sunday.

Great positive post muffin lad. Class.

Must admit that I was puzzled by that statement as couldn't remember him being anything other than dominant. Fairly certain that years later Fergie admitted to regretting offloading him when he did.

There are loads of examples of footballers that took time to settle into new clubs and flourish, it seems mental that Mo Salah and De Bruyne were both loaned out then later sold by Chelsea without hardly featuring but within a couple of years are touted as two of the worlds best footballers.

Pogba probably a better Man United example, did nowt, got sold for next to nowt then was re-signed a couple of years later for £100 million.

Exactly this and lets remember it was Scottish Premier league players who voted him one of the two best centre backs in the league just 2 years ago.

It seems I am wrong
As I said , I just thought he was off the pace
Covered well and got his new mates out of trouble on several occasions. Over-hit a long ball early first half, and got caught once in the second, but apart from that was steady away, passed well, and was a voice in midfield (something Captain Honeyman was not).

I ththink bk we are allowed to judge and ozturk is f***ing shite. Our managers first signing I think.

Which is the point, its two games and his record over a full season at Hearts was excellent and drew major plaudits....Not sure he has just turned to shit over night, more likely is that he is taking time to adjust to new club/league/country. Of course maybe he has just forgotten how to play football
Sick of reading how good he was at Hearts and how he got into the team of the season, he is at Sunderland now and his performances so far don't reflect your view of him. If he was any good why did Hearts and Boluspor get rid of him, it certainly wasn't for profit. I am the happiest of happy clappers when it comes to Sunderland, I have never walked out of a game early and always remain in my seat to clap them off at full time but I will bet you a pound to a pinch of the proverbial that Ozturk will be third choice at best and probably fourth choice behind Flanagan when they are all fit. Throwing personal insults around on a forum doesn't make your argument stronger, it just makes you look childish. I believe what I see with my own eyes instead of what others write in a newspaper.

Correct 1 shot on target all game

I am not defending Ozturk by the way, I also think he is poor, maybe its just a confidence thing, we'll see but I don't think we will see much more of him this season.
I did think we outplayed them though, but for a stupid brainfart by aforementioned shit defender, we would probably have gone on to score eventually and win

Wednesdays midfield, just before half time began passing around him. One run by Bannen towards our goal before the break ,Cattermole was out paced by Bannen which is when he started to get frustrated.. His heart might be willing (he did have in the main a decent game up to being subbed) but the body is shot.
Is this when Ozturk or Baldwin had to get over and cover. Can’t remeber which one

This. I don’t see what playing the game at any level has to do with it. Fuck knows how mourinho managed to get where he is, f***ing chancer
