Reckon we are in for some season

Voted into Scottish Prem team of the year in 2015-16 by his fellow professionals mate. Obviously all thickas fuck, didnt realise he was actually shit.

Fair enough I did'nt realise he was named in that, still means fuck all in the grand scheme of things. His career path suggests he's not that good. I don't want to criticise him but you're going massively over the top to try and prove some kind of point which is blindingly obvious - he wouldn't be here in League One, wouldn't have been shown the door at Hearts or wouldn't have been let go so easily in turkey if he was a potential quality footballer.

Celtics kids and fringe players aren't a good comparison to the rest of the SPL.

So they are better than the rest of the SPL? Its just we that we were in the Championship and they tore us to pieces

Im not trying to prove anything, I've acknowleged he has made massive errors....All I have said is that it is way too soon to claim he is awful and has no footballing ability....Its clearly not true an is an utterly embarrassing claim given his time at Hearts.

Most will be. The likes of Sinclair, Tierney, De Vries and Forrest played for a start. It wasn't just a team of kids.

It could have been their first team and point stands, they tore a recently relegated Prem side apart, it was 5 it could easily have been 10.......The Scottish Prem is probably Championship level in the main with Celtic a Prem side.

But you keep repeating this being voted in the SPL thing and making it sound like it's some great bearing of quality, asking did he con a nation - it looks quite an average team of players barring the two Celtic lads and maybe Hayes. It's like using Gary Breen's inclusion in a world cup select side as some kind of indication as to his quality.

No they tore a disjointed club in freefall apart, which was playing players who had been relegated and wanted to be away and was strengthened with the likes of Jason Steele, Browning, Vaughan and Galloway for the season ahead, with only Grabban and McGeady looking half reasonable additions. The fact we didn't even put up a fight to stay in the league with most of those players shows how little that actually meant.

This season we tore a club in St Mirren apart in preseason, yet drew with Hartlepool, got beat of Darlo and managed to sneak past Grimsby. It doesn't mean a great deal.

Being at work during the game I wanna know how Embleton and Hume got on? I’ve heard some positive stuff about Power again, really happy with him, was worried when it went quiet that we weren’t gonna get him.

It’s quite mixed on Catts, I really hope if he does stay we can expect good things from him this season, I know he’s never been seen as a great passer by the majority of people, but this is League One, he should take these games by the scruff of the neck especially with legs alongside him.

Haven’t seen Molyneux’s name mentioned so I assume he never got on? That’s a shame.

I’d feel a lot better if we could loan a striker and centre back. I worry if Wyke suffers another injury that we won’t have a striker with an aerial threat, and I worry about Ozturk not coming good and us losing a centre back to injury.

So optimistic though, can’t wait to watch the Scunny game.

Agree on the whole but I thought cattermole was poor.
:lol::lol:

What the fuck, he clearly wasn’t poor man

We started with no recognised striker and played that way for 60+ minutes.

Our approach play, pace, desire and interpassing was at times superb and we played Wednesday off the park for long periods......At one point in the second half we had 85% possession.

Hugely impressed with a number of players

Keeper, gonna put this out there that if we had had a keeper of this quality last season we would still be in the Championship, that is how badly we were managed.

Power looks superb, strolled through this game and did everything right.

Baldwin looks a class act.

McGuire is a right handful and is going to cause some real damage when he has strikers to provide for. Some questioned his performances and desire last season but he is proving that his form at Oxford was not a fluke

We have a crop of youngsters who are easily able to compete at this level....Some cracking footballers who are able to fit into Ross's high energy style of play and all will benefit from games like this......Many are currently squad players but they proved tonight that they are more than adequate.

Best have seen Cattermole for a long long time (still not worth the wage and hope that tonight will prompt interest)

We played cracking, high pressure football with at times sublime interpassing and arguably our best players are not in the team yet.

If this was a show of the way the players are adapting to Jacks style of play then I suspect there are some teams in league one going to be in for a tonking this season. Gonna put it out there that with a target man/striker partnership in there tonight we would have won that game at a canter.

Downside Osturk but not going to judge too quickly, has the attributes and physical presence to make a great centre back, will undoubtedly improve as the weeks go by and lets be honest he is not going to be playing while the first choice lads are fit.

All in all, another good night, starting to really see what Jack is trying to do and why his St Mirren side were seen as being so impressive.

Roll on Sunday.

To say “another good night” is a very very strange statement like

Great Post, marra!

In just two games and yet over a season at Hearts do you believe he conned the manager, all the fans and those who pick the team of the year plus Jack Ross? Do you think you know better than everybody else based on two performances where he has not looked great? Genuine question, you said you believe he has no attributes that will make him a great centre half and yet those who have seen him over a prolonged period of time say completely different. So are they all wrong and you are right?

Do you understand that sometimes a different league and style of football can take time for players to adjust to? His record suggests he clearly has serious ability, at the moment he isnt producing it for us but unless he has somehow forgotten how to play football in the last year those attributes are still there......Is he taking time to adjust, absolutely. Does that mean he is shite, no, its just means he is taking time to adjust.......When you switch jobs do you become spot on in a new company over night or does it take time to adjust?

For someone who claims to know a lot about football you are showing a distinct lack of knowledge about football and how professional athletes in general can take time to adjust to new situations. I suggest sir that had you actually played football to a reasonable level you would not be making the comments you are.
You are mad, why go to all that effort?
He was good at Hearts, went to play in a shit league and been poor for us so far. It’s as simple as that. Hopefully he’s a squad player at best. As apart from him all the signings look canny and I think we will end up pissing the league

Imo. Hume looked good on the ball, faster than I thought he was previously but was at fault for the second goal where he lost his man completely at a corner. Positive debut considering he was playing on the wrong side.

Embleton did nothing at all really. Had a good chance he didnt get hold of, didnt really go for a cross later on. Neat and tidy but no end product.

Molyneux got on, he was very direct. Did nothing really either

You seem to know a lot about him mate so you sholdnt be finding the question being asked so difficult to answer.....

So, what attributes have you seen in Ozturk that you believe will lead to him being a great centre back??

The almost one touch pass and move football that was seen in the first half mostly up the right side in their final third which is what I'm guessing most people are referring to was something you just don't see Sunderland play.

That famous gif/video of us against Man United where it ends with Borini hitting the bar is where we're headed if we can improve.

Good comments, including the one about not judging Ozturk yet.

Bad error but hopefully that’s addressed and he’s told to clear those.

Maybe he thought he’d have to go for it himself if he’d put it into the stands? ;)

Completely disagree, thought he had a very solid game.
Early on he hit a cross field pass that went for a throw in the his next pass also was off target and went for a throw in, other than that he was fine and did all that was required.

Thanks for the concise report from a non-attendee. I too like where this is going, and can see that when the injured are properly recovered, we could have a very decent team line up for this league. Come on!

Some very polarised opinion on this thread !

I'm trying to be positive this season but I've got 40+ years of previous Sunderland supporting reality weighing me down.

The keeper is unquestionably a marked improvement on anything we saw last season which is great for the nerves. Routine crosses into the box no longer make my blood pressure rise.

I like Baldwin and think either he or Flannigan and Loovens will make a very good centre half pairing at L1 level.

If Oviedo stays he'll shine at this level and Matthews will be fine at right back.

Power looks like he's going to do well, he knows the league and just efficiently goes about his job. He could well be what we've been missing for some time - a midfield player who gives you a 7/10 performane week after week. I really hope McGeoch is back sooner rather than later - he looked very impressive pre-season.

Gooch looks like he'll cause L1 defences problems and Maguire looks a real find.

When we add Wyke, Sinclair, Watmore and McGeady to the others I'm sure we'll have enough to be challenging for promotion, we just need to get them back and find the right system to get the most out of them.
