I take it you're saving that trick for only when you really really need some peace
If we're being all fair about it, smartphones were really PDAs* before the phone feature was added.
The format had been around for years before people like Sony-Ericsson put the phone bit in as well. Seem to recall my P910i was cracking, large touch screen, loads of apps and games (TomTom and Lemmings were ace). My dad always had a PDA for years beforehand too.
*Obviously the big jump came when Apple added the phone bit to their iPod Touch. They timed it just right when mobile data and wifi became popular, and adding that to the wildly popular iPod was just perfect. Creating a built-in App store massively lowered the entry point for non-techy users too.
