Brighton got promoted with 4 games to go and a 9 point gap over the toon or something

Or something where they just needed a single win

They played a weak team at home to blow their first chance getting stuffed

Then away at norwich stockdale the gk rammed 2 ogs in with his heed, thats when i knew the toon would win it

Final day brighton were minutes from the title then let a scuffed grealish shot from 30 yards between his legs to level, so i was innundated with rafa the god talk at work all summer

Its funny how before the season started, on here people were saying we'd struggle, Benitez had no experience in the championship, mid table at best, but once we've won the league it has become "well you should've won it anyway, all that money". So we either acheived par, or exceeded expectations. Unless it should've been won in march or something which would have meant a 120 point season.

Maybe it was the 50-60 million in incoming players that made people change their minds from mid table to should be winning it?

Thats fair comment, the top two finished streets aheads of hudds who slumped big time as their 4.5 m squad hit the skids

I thought they looked the best footballing side, but newcastle seemed to keep it tight, take their first chance, and see out the games with relative ease mostly.

And you did the double over brighton

Huddersfield finished 5th in the end. Reading were 3rd on 82, Sheff wed and Huddersfield on 81 then Fulham on 80.

Brighton slipped up in the last 3 games, but in the 3 games before Brighton had their bad spell, we lost away to sheff wed, drew at home to Leeds on the good friday, then lost to Ipswich on the Easter Monday. The sheff wed defeat was when Brighton went top.

Genuinely don't think anyone said you would struggle after spending nearly £70 million on incoming transfers during the pre-season.

Obviously net spend will be the mantra no doubt but I bet mike Ashley is still amazed and Spurs still crying about the £30 million for Moussa Sissoko. Also if the outgoing players you sold were that good how did you get relegated in the first instance?

Rafa is only losing games and buying crap players to highlight to Ashley how much he needs more money in January.

That's what makes him World Class. Pardew would never have thought of that as a tactic to get Ashley to spend or sell.


The fact that there are mags who believe this is the bit you can't make up.

was with a couple of mags this weekend and the penny is finally starting to drop that Rafa is playing politics in his battle with Ashley and that they would be doing much better if he would set them up more offensively... Oh, and he probably shouldnt have sold Mitro...

I wasn't but was texting a long standing supporter who says that word around the campfire is that Lascelles has had enough of Benitez.

He's regretting signing the new contract and his form is shot which he's blaming on the dreary tactics and system.

There's a pro and against Benitez split, in the dressing room, and Shelvey is persona non grata with the rest of the squad, Lascelles especially.

It all seems like Ashley has been there trying to get the players and manager to speak to each.

I wondered why he'd asked to come to the training round and taken them all out together.

Makes a lot of sense all of that.

Douglas has written an article about whether he can be criticised, Bong eye has written an article saying Ashley “would have the nerve to sack him”
The narrative seems to be changing, I wonder if it’s because they suspect something and are trying to start to break the news gently to the Raferites.
I hope not :)
