As did ours when Moyes said we were in a relegation battle before a ball was kicked.
He he got hammered for it. Benitez is apparently being praised for it. Whoever is to blame the last thing players need to see is their manager publically stating they aren’t good enough.
Even if they aren’t
But Moyes somehow Moyes managed to get an already limited squad to under perform. Benitez does seem to be able to get our lot to graft. It just feels like it might not be enough this season.

I get the difference between Moyes and Benitez but I’m still not sure that it’s a good thing saying they are going to be in a relegation battle.
In terms of signings it doesn’t send a very positive message either.

well I feel that didn't help the tooon last season, they started v well-got a few narrow wins, then he seemed to be moaning about quality every 5mins ignoring the fact he had wasted a fortune on players he never used then they went on that dire run.
He would have been under big pressure if they didn't come from 0-2 down away to WBA, but once he got the gk, kenedy in they had s similar 2nd half of the season to us under allardyce, very organised and worked their socks off.

they have the gk and kenedy still, slimani was no loss, and ki will probably do better for them than merino did so they are no worse off in my opinion- they just need a 'proper' striker or two rather than wasting money on murphy/joselu/manquillo types

if they could get daft money for Ritchie like 12-14m and get a better winger im sure they would do that, but as we have seen that kind of money for a limited grafter might only get you a lens or alvarez, but might also get a good one like the Brazilian one Watford signed for about 8m.
