Rafa. He's still not happy

Think what you should consider is that Rafa is aware of the over inflated market and is attempting to play our hand down
, we aren't the only club doing business slowly to an extent and I think it's a rather expensive high stakes game of poker going on right now with many clubs, last few weeks of the transfer market could be entertaining and ultimately patience may pay off in value terms.

You're just guessing though aren't you ..... it could be nothing like that.

Sorry but you can't always hide behind your 'tedious agenda' routine when you've been caught out.

It's obvious you were talking about the past, not the future, and claiming it was regarding a takeover by a mystery billionaire in some far off scenario is ridiculous.

Many Mags, including yourself, seem to believe that competing in Europe and blowing the league title puts you up with the big boys.

If you're not then you're admitting you're just one of the also rans, which is correct.

The amount of time you spend on mags threads and talking about them is worrying me reiver

Yes we are all guessing does anyone here actually know? Of course not it's speculation and that's why I don't personally jump to conclusions, i'm simply presenting an alternative reality that could be the truth, the negativity being created around Newcastle is all in the media, the actual players and manager are positive ahead of the start of the season.

By all means if we don't sign another striker there will be cause to be disappointed and frustrated, but there is still ages left in the transfer window

Not sure him implying it is going to be a struggle or saying the players that are being targeted are not neccesarily the ones he wants is positive mind.

Benitez is creating more negativity than the media.

Tell you what, how about you let me be the one who decides what I meant? I mean given I thought it, I typed it and then I clarified it, I'd say I was better suited to knowing my meaning than a Sunderland fan who doesn't know me from Adam.

You were being patronising man admit it. For what it's worth i think you will do alright and finish about 18th.;)
 there's a derangement on here where my meaning is twisted regardless what I type.

"Newcastle aren't currently a truly big club" EEEEeeee he think that they were once as big as Manchester United"
"No mate, you won't go down" Eeeeeee the patronising basser is being patronising.
"Rafa Benitez is a f***ing good manager" EeEeeeeeee he thinks Rafa is the Messiah!

 way too precious, you lot.

He's just said in his press conference that they are progressing with targets but "it's not the players we necessarily want" that will instill confidence and encouragement in any new signings.
@The Fish apologies if you've already covered this but I'm intrigued as to what you think of some of the soundbites Benitez is coming out with, such as the one above. For me, I think alarm bells would be ringing, not due to the fear that he may be about to walk but more about the impact that it's going to be having on the existing players and players you'll be bringing in before September.

I played down the impact of Moyes saying we'd be in a relegation battle etc and I thought it was a huge overreaction (rare for this place, I know) but in hindsight I do think his comments did have an effect. I think a lot of Benitez's remarks recently are of a similar ilk.

I think Benitez comments are reflecting his frustration about the market. I also think they're an effort to lower expectations, our crowd has a reputation for getting carried away ;)

There were 6 points between 8th and 17th, nearly half the league were involved in a relegation battle at some point of their season.

Also, I think he likes to instill a "them against us" mentality in the dressing room. He did it last season with his comments about the officials, and meeting every win with a call for calm and a "one game at a time" approach. I also doubt what he says in public necessarily reflects what he says in private.

All that said I'm a bigger fan of "These are shite, lets do them" from the manager.

Oof shots fired from Mike Ashley

Mike Ashley admits it's impossible to give Rafa Benitez enough money to compete w/the biggest clubs. Exclusive interview on @SkySportsNews.
Mike Ashley underlines the fact that Lee Charnley answers to Rafa Benitez, and the Spaniard has the final say on all transfers, in and out.
