Peoples character changes on how they are treated.

I got bullied for a year or so in middle school and there was a lad who got bullied by every single person, even the teachers were horrible to him. I joined in as it made me fit in with others and they'd not be picking on me.

I worked with a lad who was horrible to loads of people. I really didn't like him.

He killed himself. So god knows what pushed him to be way he was.

Rafiq may be an absolute twat doesn't condone him suffering racism back. He may be a "twat" as his way of dealing with what happens to him.

In another story, the player said he overheard ‘senior players’ — both still involved at Yorkshire —talking about ‘how they “sh**ged a bird” in the hotel room who was on her period and made a mess, and all they could find is a Muslim player’s prayer mat to clean it up. Sick or what. These are supposed to be your team-mates and people I looked up to.’

The player is understood to have been emboldened to speak out by Rafiq’s whistleblowing, which will be the subject of a hearing by the digital, culture, media and sport select committee on November 16, though the pair never crossed paths in county cricket.
 
I thought the resignation interview from Hutton was interesting and it is good to see more of what has gone on. I have no idea of whether he is making it up, or whether it is 100% true. My guess would be somewhere in the middle. He would have to be really thick skinned to lie publicly about the behaviours of the Directors of the club.

The more information that comes out on Yorkshire’s handling of this terrible affair the better. It should make employers more aware of their responsibilities and brushing it under the carpet is not an acceptable answer.

ECB are disgrace for allowing Yorkshire to commission the review/report internally.
The report should have been done by the ECB or independently.
Clearly there are issues at Yorkshire and they need a top to bottom review of their policies, personnel, structure etc.
Nike have shown mass hypocrisy.
This will be the tip of the iceberg and expect stuff coming out from other counties.
Expect a defamation claim from Vaughan if he's innocent.
The meeting on 16th will be very very interesting.

But I mean if you take him on face value and he was being stopped from bringing the whole thing forward for months/ years. You know what would make it move forward? resigning and speaking out about it months/ years ago....

True, but then you dont see many Asian lads (or lasses) playing any sports. Thinking about it, you dont actually see many Asians at the SoL, used to be the Punjab Army, and a few Koreans, when we had Ji playing for us.

Yes of course. But the more we find out, the better. The session at the HoP in a week or so should be really interesting. They’ll have a huge stack of information to start from, not least Hutton’s letter.

I just think there would have been more inclination within Yorkshire cricket if it had been someone other than Rafiq. And potentially that partly explains if not excuses some of the reticence .

There's lots of Asian kids play cricket in the north east and certainly in Yorkshire , I think by enlarge they tend to stay at the same teams .
I was talking to my lad about it the other day. The club he plays for has lots of Asian cricketers , some of them the best at the club . They're all in the second team , won't play first team and the reason is they only enjoy batting and bowling , and if they're not assured of first go they don't want to know about helping out .
It's not wrong it's just how they see the purpose of cricket, they love a bit of heroism and the way they banter is all about bigging up , that's not indulged at decent first team level .
Just different culture.

Cricket’s reputation in Yorkshire is completely fucked now like. Who in their right mind would want to start playing the game or let their kids play against this backdrop? In the past I would have recommended it to anyone. I wouldn’t now. I’d be embarrassed to

Interesting, why do you say Syed is getting ever weirder? I used to enjoy the podcast he did with Flintoff and Savage, he could come across a bit odd on there at times and somewhat starstruck by Freddie but was harmless enough I thought.
