Racism at Yorkshire CCC

Any penalties should be financial I think as its been clear for some time that is all the club cares about. Removing all internationals for a five year period, taking the Hundred franchise away, and heavy fines would be about right.

Not sure what demotions and deductions would achieve in the grand scheme of things. Would be punishing the wrong people and risks a siege mentality developing with nothing actually being solved

Surely before various parties look for "their pound if flesh" from Yorkshire with various sanctions then the most important thing is that procedures are put in place so that this doesn't occur again and are followed throughout our domestic cricket.

The full details of 's allegations of racism at Yorkshire are set to come to light after he was called to give evidence to the Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) select committee.

Roger Hutton, the chair of Yorkshire, Mark Arthur, the chief executive, and Martyn Moxon, the club's director of cricket, have also been called to provide evidence. The hearing will be held on November 16.

Must admit that I haven't been following this story but from what I've been listening to on the radio this morning the whole board of Yorkshire CCC needs to go. If the allegations had happened in any other workplace you would expect those involved to be fired not written off as "banter".

Like I said earlier in this thread if I went to Headingley and called a player a "p**i" I'd be arrested. I doubt they would accept "banter" was an acceptable reason

This is what I've been saying for a long time. Sure relegate us, fine them, take the hundred franchise off us etc. But before all that it's important that procedures are put in place to stop this happening again (which includes sacking and banning all at the top).

I all hope that cricket (as well as its supporters) don't view Yorkshire as a abberation but instead as the tip of the iceberg. There is zero chance this culture would just thrive in a single institution, without some overlap elsewhere.

There isn't a worse case of an organisation reacting this badly to a racist complaint in any sector, anywhere in the country.

The ECB has to throw the book at them. And Azeem surely is going to win millions if he gets a day in court with them.

They should be absolutely fucked over. Deserve it.

It should be higher, I agree. It gets on back pages of some of the broadsheets, but I would think today it crosses the threshold from a sports story to a news proper story.

Should be in the BBC Six and Ten packages and if it isn't, questions should be asked.
Took 24 hours for the shots to be fired, but we got there.

Government all over them, BBC no choice to cover now.

ECB equally will have no choice to absolutely crucify them. Their whole campaign on diversity and wanting to attract young South Asian background players into the game absolutely depends upon it.

I didn't like the ECB's statement yesterday saying they want this resolved "as quick as possible". It doesn't to me sound like they are willing to take the steps needed.

Realistically they have two approaches; the first is to sweep it under the carpet - impose a huge fine, maybe some on field punishments (relegation, points deductions etc.), force a few of the top brass to fall on their swords/ take early retirement, and make Yorkshire sign a pledge or whatever. The second (and right way imo) is a full investigation of the entire county game by an independent panel - and wide ranging changes to the game - including a great reputation at board level across the sport to ensure this doesn't happen again (as well as massive changes in procedure at Yorkshire and punishments at all levels at the club).

George dobell was on talk sport earlier today saying there were allegations made by another player over the repeated use of the N word by a well known player, but it wasnt even investigated as part of the report carried out

I suspect you're right and this is just the tip of the iceberg in cricket. Let's hope other come and speak out if that's the case.

My MP that (and is for Headingley too) regardless of your political alliance, he's a good bloke is Alex Sobel.

Good to see him getting involved, needs this to put pressure on the ECB and avoid it being brushed under the carpet.
This won't be brushed under the carpet now. MPs involved, main media all over it and sponsors quitting.... This is only the start
