5th is a EPS place (European Performance Spot) so it is an 'awarded' place that can be pushed down unlike the top 4 which are allocated at the start of the season.

Conference League teams of the last 5 years include Roma, Fiorentina, Betis, Villarreal, Anderlecht, Club Brugge, Besiktas, Fenerbahce, Feyenoord, Frankfurt, FC Copenhagen, Basel, Dynamo Kiev, Shaktar Donetsk, Lille, Partizan Belgrade, Panathinaikos, Dinamo Zagreb and Bodo Glimt. Along with Spurs, Villa, Chelsea, West Ham and Palace.

Any Sunderland fan who thinks that is beneath them is more arrogant than a mag.

More “above us” is the fact. We’d get whipped by most of them.

I want Europe but I know what would happen. Bizarre that.

We definitely wouldn’t be getting whipped by most of them. We are a better than the likes of Forest and Palace and they’ve held their own in Europe this season

You keep saying that, but how is it the case? It’s not fact at all. There’s years of English teams doing extremely well against these teams & they’re below us in the league. The fact is actually that Spurs, Villa, Chelsea, West Ham and Palace are in that list & we’ve took points from every one of them in the last 8 months. Of that English list three teams have won a European trophy recently & two are in the semi finals of this years competition. We play every week against the very teams that go far in these competitions.

Wgat you say is opinion & not fact. You’re getting swayed by exotic names, but the actual facts, football results & suggest the opposite.

There's some cracking away days to be had in the Conference League.

Even some of the less well known places would make a nice trip away.

Convenient that you dodged all of the European teams and only mentioned the Premier League ones. You aren’t fooling me for a second!

No mention of clubs like Beshiktas, Shaktar Donetsk, Partisan Belgrade and Lille.

Move on man, look at the last min 3 points we took this season, and people still going on about Diarra’s shot been saved have you ever seen a player score from every shot they take ?
Watched Man City fail to score from god knows how many chances last night most of them a lot easier.
We unbelievably in the mix, enjoy, stop twisting and get behind the lads 💪

we didnt throw three points away. We made an extremely unlikely comeback. It would have been an absolute miracle if we had done it and just fell short.
