Race For Europe

Just been looking at the games left and the teams currently above us in the race for a European spot.

I’ll start off by saying I don’t think Brentford will stay 7th. Got a complete bastard of a run in - Man Utd, Man City and Liverpool away. And West Ham at home. They might surprise but those 3 away games alone I can’t see them getting much from.

I think Chelsea have a tough run too. Got to go to the most in form team in the league midweek away at Brighton. And they have to go to Anfield. Their two home games are against Forest and Spurs. They could relegate Spurs in that game so expect it to be a battle. No reason why we can’t be still 2 points or better behind them going into the final match of the season when we play them at home.

Brighton. Aside from Chelsea they have the Mags away next weekend (Could they turn up for once?) and also need to go away to Leeds who are flying and Man Utd final game at home. I’d argue about the same as us in terms of difficulty.

Bournemouth. 3 games that could go either way with Leeds, Palace and Fulham next. But final 2 are hard with Man City and away at Forest final game when Forest might need to get something to stay up. I’d say slightly harder then ours just as most of those teams are around them then a tough last 2.

Everton. Looks quite tricky with 3 away games. Got to go away to teams battling to survive with West Ham and then Spurs final game. Palace away the other. Then aside from us they have Man City at home. Overall I’d definitely say tougher then our run in.

Obviously the game is not played on paper but I’d be very surprised to see Brentford finish above us with their 3 away games. I think we have the “easiest” (On paper) schedule to play relegation fighters with Forest at home and Wolves away who will be already down. Brighton would be the main one I look at and think their games are comparable to us and they are in good form. Get 10+ points and I think we stand a good chance of Europe.

Also only the teams above us I know that Palace and a few others are right in their as well.

I also looked at the run in for the teams around us, plus the slippery slid Chelsea were on, we had a great chance prior to the Villa game, missed a golden opportunity. Very much tougher now.

Could still happen and more twists and turns before the seasons end. Imagine if the scenario turns out that our last game of the season, the winner gets a Europe spot 😱

Win on Friday night and we are right back in the mix!

Tough game and everything but its one of them where if we play well we can take the 3 points.

We have shown good resilience so far to bounce back from disappointing results.
I think that end of season excitement is starting to build after a bit of a lull. It feels like everybody is up for Friday. We’ve got something to play for over a small space of time. Lose & I think that’ll be that. Win, great chance going into Wolves to pick something up then what could be a huge game against Man Utd. Just please fuck beat Forest!
Desperate for a Leeds win tonight.
Aye. I’m struggling to see it like. I’d be happy for a draw & Bournemouth to drop points. 3rd Jan since they last got beat. They’ve had a fair few draws in that like

This is the stage of the season where I’ll actually watch a Bournemouth match as it affects us. Usually if there’s nothing else better to do it’d be on in the background. Wednesday night earlier in the season me & owa lass would be watching a series or something

So there will now definitely be 7 spots for Europe in the league (5/1/1) but if Man City win the FA Cup 8, (5/2/1)- if Chelsea win the FA Cup they need to be in the top 7 for 8th to qualify. No 8th if neither can it. Brighton beating Chelsea was a bad result.

Would do us a favour but I’d say it was a long shot. Leeds players wouldn’t be human if they didn’t have their minds on the cup semifinal at the weekend.

Bournemouth are flying too. They’ve drawn a few at home so that’s a straw to clutch at but as much as I’d love it to happen I can’t see an away win.

Leeds will rest a few imo. Believe they’ll beat Chelsea on Sunday and that’s the bigger game

Unlikely they’ll get relegated, but surely you don’t jeopardise that while it’s still a possibility

I’m lost off now, but is this the most likely scenario at the minute? We’re supporting Man City & Chelsea at the weekend?

Need a Man City or Chelsea win for 8th to get Europe, if it's Chelsea then only matters if we don't finish ahead of them anyway.

But top 7 is now definite.

I'm still hurting from yesterday, never mind looking this far ahead. Think we will look back at villa with regret about europe massively come May.

That was me when Diarra missed his chance.

When he was running towards goal, I was thinking we're going to win and be 6th with a possibility of Champions League (all in a few nano seconds).... at the end of the game, that's Europe out of the question 🥵

'It's the hope I can't stand' ....
but 'Til the end 🙏

Bournemouth have drawn three more games than any other team in the league and Leeds have drawn the next nost so a draw is a possibility tonight.

Forest are definitely coming into form right when they need to - they'll definitely be up for it on Friday so we might have to be patient and expect to soak up some pressure early on
They will come to win i think so that should suit us. If we can keep Gibbs-White quiet we should beat them
