Race For Europe

Just been looking at the games left and the teams currently above us in the race for a European spot.

I’ll start off by saying I don’t think Brentford will stay 7th. Got a complete bastard of a run in - Man Utd, Man City and Liverpool away. And West Ham at home. They might surprise but those 3 away games alone I can’t see them getting much from.

I think Chelsea have a tough run too. Got to go to the most in form team in the league midweek away at Brighton. And they have to go to Anfield. Their two home games are against Forest and Spurs. They could relegate Spurs in that game so expect it to be a battle. No reason why we can’t be still 2 points or better behind them going into the final match of the season when we play them at home.

Brighton. Aside from Chelsea they have the Mags away next weekend (Could they turn up for once?) and also need to go away to Leeds who are flying and Man Utd final game at home. I’d argue about the same as us in terms of difficulty.

Bournemouth. 3 games that could go either way with Leeds, Palace and Fulham next. But final 2 are hard with Man City and away at Forest final game when Forest might need to get something to stay up. I’d say slightly harder then ours just as most of those teams are around them then a tough last 2.

Everton. Looks quite tricky with 3 away games. Got to go away to teams battling to survive with West Ham and then Spurs final game. Palace away the other. Then aside from us they have Man City at home. Overall I’d definitely say tougher then our run in.

Obviously the game is not played on paper but I’d be very surprised to see Brentford finish above us with their 3 away games. I think we have the “easiest” (On paper) schedule to play relegation fighters with Forest at home and Wolves away who will be already down. Brighton would be the main one I look at and think their games are comparable to us and they are in good form. Get 10+ points and I think we stand a good chance of Europe.

Also only the teams above us I know that Palace and a few others are right in their as well.

I’m giving myself a break. I looked at the table & fixtures too much at the back end of last week. My head is frazzled by it all. I’ll keep an eye on the Brighton/Chelsea & Bournemouth results midweek, but I’m just concentrating on Friday now. You’d think a win will keep us right in it, but if we fuck it up & get beat it’s looking pretty unlikely.

So aye, I’ll just concentrate on Friday.

We’re certainly not out if it by any means despite yesterdays loss.

If you look at where we’ve struggled this season it’s not surprisingly been against sides currently in the top five. We’ve played 9 games so far against the current top five and have secured only 4 points from a possible 27.

We’ve only got Man Utd from that part of the table left to play in our run in whereas others competing with us for European places have far more (Brentford have 3, Palace 3).

Still lots of twists and turns no doubt. Will already relegated Wolves be on the beach when we play them or will they play with complete freedom and lack of pressure?

Will Chelsea’s poor form go on or will they have secured European football by winning the FA Cup by the time we play them on the final
day?

I’d just love us to be still in with a shout of Europe going in to the last round of games with Chelsea at the sol to decide our fate.

If yesterday has taught us anything it's that you can't just write off games. Plenty of our fans would have written off the Villa game, yet a better finish from diarra and we leave with 3 points.
Plenty of football still to be played, we just need to take care of our own games. Friday night is a huge game, we need to be winning that if we are to have a decent shot at it imo. Then we go to wolves.

Great chance at 6 points which would set us up nicely for our run in.

Fantastic whatever happens. Been a brilliant first season back in the PL.

We do have the advantage in that we've the least mental pressure on ourselves to finish in a euro spot, compared to the clubs above us.

If we win the next two or get a minimum of 4 points I think we will get Europe. We thrive at home against the big sides and especially in "playoff" style scenarios so I firmly believe 4/6 points would give us the belief and drive to beat United and Chelsea. Imagine the atmosphere in those games if we are in a European position with >3 games to go. It will be like Coventry all over again.

We have to win the next two. And one of the Man Utd or Everton games. Only then will we be in a good position going into the last day v Chelsea.

Finishing above the mags is priority,a point yesterday would of gone a long way to getting it done.Forest is going to be tough.

I think we have a chance, fancy us to win at wolves and beat Chelsea at home.
Not sure what to expect on Friday, could be a tough game

Forest are definitely coming into form right when they need to - they'll definitely be up for it on Friday so we might have to be patient and expect to soak up some pressure early on
