Canny in Glasgow means clever or careful, especially with moneyIs canny not used differently in Scotland though? We use it to emphasise something, do Scots not use it instead of "can't" and spell it "cannae"?
Thanks. I didn't know that. Surprising I haven't picked up on that as I watch Still Game over and over!Canny in Glasgow means clever or careful, especially with money
Oh and there's a whole load of stuff to get picked over in that.Thanks. I didn't know that. Surprising I haven't picked up on that as I watch Still Game over and over!
I think that is used in parts of England too. But for us if someone was quite careful with money, they would be canny canny.Canny in Glasgow means clever or careful, especially with money
And to suggest cunning or shrewdness.I think some of the uses is the same. Though we use it to mean a few things, which is why I think it is a brilliant word.
It means a fair amount, "there is a canny bit of flooding in the garden after all this rain".
It means good, "That young lad looks like a canny player"
and it means cute, "Aww, doesn't that collie look canny?".
