Quality of the Premier League

Its literally a thread based on the mags beating wolves 1-0 and trying to make himself feel better

the standard of the top half has never been higher

people look back at rose tinted glasses from 20years, but its chalk and cheese
I’d argue the late 00s were better. The CL was something else in those days and we had 3/4 semi finalists a couple times.

 the timing of the thread is not coincidence like

Premier league is easily the best league in europe, both in terms of quality and entertainment, its not even close
I never watched Newcastle tonight. I've been out and watched some of last week's match of the day.

So just decided to start this thread right on full time of their game

righto!

Teams like Chelsea now would win the league countless times years ago IMO.

Never watched a minute of it. Didn't appeal to me.

I wouldn't disagree that the PL is the strongest league and the top sides are best teams in Europe to watch by far. Just saying I wouldnt want to watch the mid table sides at all these days.

Maybe I'm getting on a bit? Just think like there's better leagues in terms of how mid table sides approach playing each other.

I'm sure you've said you don't watch European football anyway.

I worked in Spainlast year and honestly some of the games were like testimonial games, I couldnt believe how bad it was to watch

Id like to have a timer on how much the ball was passed along the back 4 with no pressure

They had a proper team back then. Cole, Ballack, Drogba, Terry, Lampard, Essien etc. Easily better than their team now. The league was at its worst in my (relatively short) lifetime when we were scrapping down the bottom. Those teams wouldn’t get 20pts now. But the 00s was my peak. The Big 4 were amazing teams. It’s now the Big 2 followed by 4 teams miles behind but better than the rest

The PL has always been my favourite league to watch but the games against the top 2 are foregone conclusions these days, although the teams are fantastic to watch.

French mid table sides fare better against Paris and their wage bill is 40% of the whole league total.
No I'm going off your posts you're an absolute freak
Okay pal. Says the bloke who follows me around and tells me every other day.

The top 2 are way better than PSG though. Look at their contrasting European fortunes

I'm not arguing that. I'm talking about mid table sides in the division and the spectacle you see.

I'm saying even they have more of a go with a vastly superior financial difference. Paris have been turned over by teams with a budget a fraction of an Aston villa.

I think that’s slightly unfair when Leicester have turned over Liverpool and Palace have taken 4pts off City. Imo.

Absolutely on its arse isn't it?

I remember when we were in there and I could watch two random bottom half sides on sky and it was decent. These days it's never a decent game, quality is on the floor and boring.

Most competitive league in the world, probably aye. But there's much better entertainment in numerous European leagues.
Not see Burnley v Everton on Wednesday?

That's my point in a way, palace are fantastic to watch. Leicester also aren't defensive either.

Too many teams just go and park a bus and hope to keep the score down.

This is 100% right. There’s so much money involved in the Prem now, that most teams are more afraid to lose than they are eager to win. Far too many sides start the season now thinking about nothing but scratching out 38 points.
