Punch on Brobbey

I said it at the match yesterday from the first 5 minutes....that ref was not reffing that game, he was being told what was a foul and what was not a foul. It was taking him 5 seconds to make a decision then holding his earpiece. Couple of times he shook his head not giving a decision....for him to blow a few seconds later for a foul. He was not refereeing that game yesterday, VAR and the 4th official was.
Exactly what I felt watching at the game and the lad next to me agreed. The delay between events and whistle made no sense unless instructions were coming through belatedly from 3rd party.

That should have been a red and a pen for us. I think the ref knew he'd messed up as otherwise Angulo ought to have gone too, but he levelled up.

I've seen a couple of videos now where the refs communications with the 4th official and VAR are made public and published on various social media platforms (probably in a bid to wins hearts and minds of the fans). In all honesty they're quite insightful and interesting. I think this should be expanded and that all ref communications should be released after every match to make it much more transparent to the fans; because I, like you, think sometimes there is more than a bit of 'puppeteering' going on.

Was I pissed or did he give a handball from Brobbey on the edge of their box when we were attacking, in the first half? He did a scoop action with his arm to suggest it but the ball was literally played across the floor, by his foot.
I saw that and we couldn't believe our eyes.

Brobbey was pushed in the back and put his hand out to stop going over and the ball hit his hand
Only saw it once on TV, was bemused then saw him touch the ball, so thought fair enough decision. The amount of pushing you can get away with these days is another matter, proper two handed shoves get over looked constantly, which just leads to players doing more of it

VAR should be thrown out of the window and never heard of again, it is ruining football. The inconsistency is dreadful at the moment and I really feel as if football is in danger of losing its soul. The powers that be need to be very careful as for me the game has gone as things stand.
This was my position at the beginning of all this VAR nonsense. It wastes time, continually gets stuff wrong and virtually every decision is as contentious as it would have been if it hadn’t existed. The beauty of football is that it is fast, frantic and dynamic and not suited (like Rugby, American football and Cricket) for lengthy breaks in play. We were lied to that VAR would cure all bad decisions because it would be backed by ‘experts’ who could sit in judgement and unbiased anonymity and make critical decisions in the heat of a game. Referees would be empowered to- although instead, they have become deskilled and disabled; frightened to make even the most obvious call sometimes. Where next? VAR for throw ins, corners? It’ll come, and further erode our enjoyment of the once beautiful game. “VAR; taking the humanity out of football “.

And we said after the first half, the two blokes doing the VAR were no doubt sat in front of the screen in their Man Utd shirts.
