Punch on Brobbey

I said it at the match yesterday from the first 5 minutes....that ref was not reffing that game, he was being told what was a foul and what was not a foul. It was taking him 5 seconds to make a decision then holding his earpiece. Couple of times he shook his head not giving a decision....for him to blow a few seconds later for a foul. He was not refereeing that game yesterday, VAR and the 4th official was.
It was bizzare.

He gave a couple of comical fouls when not one of their players was appealing for one.

Yep, you are correct. That's exactly what happened. Bizaree it was.

Was I pissed or did he give a handball from Brobbey on the edge of their box when we were attacking, in the first half? He did a scoop action with his arm to suggest it but the ball was literally played across the floor, by his foot.
Brobbey bent down & touched the ball....not sure why, but that was actually a good decision by the ref (one of very few!)

Agreed, Michael Keane makes potentially leg breaking challenge against Manchester City on Monday, receives a yellow card and VAR clears red card. Ballard accidentally pulls 2 strands of dreadlocks gets a red card and a 3 match ban for violent conduct. I can't make sense of it all.
Your final sentence is the most damning thing about football, and how the rules have been amended to the point of all being ‘grey’.
Many football fans are, like most sporting fans, knowledgeable about the sport, seek information and want to be educated on the laws of the game.
So many nowadays simply repeat your last sentence, or it is a case of “I really don’t know now”.
The laws of the game should be simple. Far too many now have so many nuances that, in almost all aspects, there is no actual definitively correct decision. Referees can’t be wrong when there is no wrong choice, rather an individuals interpretation. VAR was supposed to eradicate that, on the big calls. The calls that decide outcomes and/or change the likelihood of outcomes. Now what we have are referees not making decisions, rather wait to be prompted by VAR. VAR then rarely change the on field decision. When the referee has made no on field decision VAR are not actually officiating for the official either.
VAR should either be the main match official and review everything or be used for ‘over the line’ decisions only.
Neither would make the game perfect however what we have now is a joke.

I apologise to the older generation I sit amongst for standing up and yelling “YOU CLUELESS C***!!”

Things like that though, really vex me. It’s inexcusable.

Oh, and the children. Thankfully, my daughter didn’t race home and tell her Mam :)
No need to aplogise . I'm 68 was loudley calling him a **** from that first free kick on the edge of our box ..and did so on at least 3-4 more occasions . South stand so theres not supposed to be kids in there .
No apologies , hes actually a **** .

I don’t disagree but he does need to work on his subtlety a bit. He is very aggressive himself and he gives the referees an easy decision to just give a foul to the defender a lot when he doesn’t need to, as he’s strong as an ox anyway
That cliche he gives refs an easy decision, a foul should be a foul regardless if it’s against a 6ft monster or a 5ft small midfielder. That’s what has pissed me off for years refs clearly ref games with an unconscious bias, it would happen with quinny all the time quinny pushes off a bit of pulls foul, players literally hanging off his back because they’re too small to mark him well he’s 6ft 5 he should be able to deal with it. Does me head in and while Brobbey does give as good as he gets there has been clear fouls refs have let defenders get away with because brobbeys a strong lad.

Was it not looked at because BB, took it and jumped straight up. Perhaps if he rolled around like a toddler holding his head it may have got the attention it deserved.

I hate playing acting but there's a reason most do it. "He who shouts loudest.....etc"

Tin hat firmly on…

If he doesnt change his approach/grappling/hand full of shirt constantly I think many might get a bit frustrated with him.
Its great when sucessful but needs mixing up a bit.

Why wasn’t this analysed on match of the day? Just watched it there and all the analysis was about Man Utd missing players and how Angulo should have been sent off.
I got home after the match to watch that garbage being passed as analysis. Frankly its days are numbered. Hangers on and has beens blowing off the so called big teams . The match stats showed we outplayed Man Utd in every area, yet the tools crapped on about Man Utd having an off day whilst failing to mention Sunderland showing them up for the bang average team they really are.

Man Utd were shite even with the refs help. Reminded me of the home game against Burnley for an opposition team who turn up and spend 90-odd minutes doing nowt.

That first free kick was a foul by Geertruida

Drogba when he first came to the league fell over if a breeze touched him and he didn't do great initially. Once he cut that out and mixed strength (which he had a fuck tonne of) without grappling and being clever drawing fouls he was outstanding. Defenders couldn't work out how to approach him, go in hard on him and he would win the foul by going down, hit him anything less than with your full strength and he would bounce you off him. Hopefully Brobbey can learn how to utilise his strength fully as he did because defenders will not have a clue how to counter it.

Take a poll of defenders at the end of this season and ask who they hate going up against and this lad will top it.

better they are shit scared of you than he roll around cos someone slapped him side of the head.

He'll never score 20 goals a season in this league, but with a full season and better wingers he'll get well into double figures.

Our issue is to push the midfielders up closer to feed off him. That's a risk of course. Next step though.

But every time the team news goes up next season the opposition central defenders will look for one name first. And then think Oh shit.

I was utterly perplexed with that one, I was asking if he'd just given a freekick for playing a pass along the floor, there was not the slightest reason for a foul.
