Prospective England openers

I get what you’re saying, and inclined to agree. It’s hard tho as Roy doesn’t have a particularly bad first class record, averages more than Livingstone and not far off Malan

Absolutely but at 5 or 6 if I remember correctly, could have been a success there, just isnt a red ball opener is he.

Brook playing in big crowds in Pakistan can only help

That’s why I think it was really harsh to open with Roy against that attack.

If they were going to play him he should have been down the order as did not open for Surrey in that format.

Who knows he may or may not done better down the order.

He was like lamb to slaughter opening.

On form id say these are the frontrunners

Crawley will play and is more than likely gonna be made VC by Stokes

Still expect one of Pope and Lawrence to play too

It'll be Crawley and Lees but the former is fortunate. He looks very classy at times but has displayed no consistency at any level for some time. IMO, he is not suited to batting in the top 3.

Problem is mate not many are, so considering all options he is still worth another go.

In a different era with more options would entirely agree.

Still fortunate

These blokes have played a lot of tests

I still think he’s gonna be a class white ball player for England but not at test level

Just no record to speak of at any level

Yes possibly but it’s like anything else in any sport more chance of been replaced if better options less chance of been replaced if not.

Jennings 238 on the back of a 100 in the last game
Haseeb 112
Lammonby 76
Robson 9
Lees 44
Dickson 5

Stoneman 31
Crawley 17
Sibley 30 not out

Sibley the only one pressing his case lets be honest

Crawley is the tricky one. Stokes will want him, forget Key.

I dont thnk CC runs are everything but if you are bang out of form then thats a worry

Crawley is a real worry. He looks brilliant at times, but his first class record is actually bang average, just over 30.

The CC seems to be run crazy this summer, and he’s not getting any.

Aye, I think this season kind of shows him up a bit, as normally he can hide behind green pitches, 30 average is good etc, but this year everyone is getting runs.

Stokes said this week that he wants one of young players to be VC and the insutation from the journos was that it would be Crawley

so that kind of shows how highly they value him, some risk like!

Problem with Sibley is he is a player you pick to not lose a game rather than win it.

He would be a perfect player to pick when you 2-1 up going into the oval on a good wicket in the last game of series.

But if you want to be positive and look to win games not someone I would pick!

I think he's improvd by the sounds of it like

I honestly think if Sibley scores big runs on good wickets where it is hard to get 20 wickets it is not necessarily a good thing as he scores his runs that slow, it gives the team he is playing for less time to get them 20 wickets.

Especially in 4 day cricket, obviously less so in 5 day cricket.

Personally just my opinion but Sibley would be a negative pick.

I thought he looked a lot better over the winter, he seemed to have found a method. So id have started him, but I’m starting to doubt it a bit

mate cant agree like, England need an opener who scores runs regeularly, doesnt matter how he gets them, we just need runs

not saying he will, but thats all I am interested in

Speed is less the issue for me. It’s more that I don’t think he had the shots to keep the scoreboard ticking, and thus he would get stuck and if out of form he could never make a score

Cook scored slowly, as did Atherton, but they had ways of making big runs
