Prospective England openers

rentaghost

Striker
All to play for with no-one nailing these positions down definitely in the winter.

Nick Browne 107 - well thought of a couple of years ago
Lammonby - 11
Burns - 44
Yates - 32
Sibley - 0
Libby 27
Stoneman - 12
Hameed - 5
Lees 28 not out so far

Weatherley at Hants the big performer so far with 168 but not a great start for most

Sibley was my pick for top run scorer in Div 1 so thank me for his start

Lees looking good from what I've watched so far.

I'm still backing Libby to score big this season

first baller like, can happen.

He will be in with a shout for me.

Lees with a great knock though

the reality is it all depends on who the coach is.

A big name with bold ideas might have his own thoughts on what he wants his team to look like, and may have no interest in loyalty or who holds the shirt regardless of form.
Burns will have a chance

I was reading he has made changes to his technique, its about time. Despite what people will think I am not against him coming back if he has worked hard at his game

The thing that really really annoyed me was that he was just happy averaging 30, and just had exactly the same technique as he did the first test he played, despite getting worse and worse, 7 ducks in a year.

Thats not good enough for a cricketer on a 6 figure England contract. Why it took him getting dropped from the team 2 or 3 times to do something about it I have no idea.

Arrogance? Complacency?

Mentioned it elsewhere, but the Essex lot rate Browne highly. His record over the last few years is actually better than Alastair Cooks - which should silence the ‘bring back Sir Alastair’ nonsense.

Not being facetious, but look at his haircut. I’m not one for getting personal or criticising someone’s appearance, but it looks ridiculous and obviously he is too bloody minded to do anything about it. Speaks volumes I reckon.

Hasan Azad should come into the equation. Carried his bat for an unbeaten century to earn Leics a draw yesterday. Averages 40 in FC cricket.

Sibley has been working on his game, has hiswhole career

burns hasnt
I'm not sure where you get your information from I would imagine all professional cricketers are working at their game all of the time. Its what they are paid for. That said I'll have to take your word for it.

Eh?

Rory burns technique didn’t change in 3 years as an England opener. Not once

Sibley turned down an England lions place to work on his game all winter when he got dropped

Not sure how you didn’t know that, I’ll take your word for it

Sibley chose to take time off to work at his batting which is what all batsman do all of the time when they aren't playing. Its their profession and that's what they do. That's different to making fundamental changes to his technique that neither Burns nor Sibley have done as far as I can see. Unless of course you know differently. You have just said in a post above that you had heard Burns has been working on his technique and claim Sibley is working on his. Wheres the difference?

Eh?

Burns hasnt doen that, thats the exact point.

Because Burns has been int he side 3 years and not done very well

he hasnt worked hard enough, I have no idea what sort of point you are trying to make here, I suggest you listen to Mark Butcher on this, he is spot on

Sibley has tried to work on it immediately after his first bad spell, its taken Burns over 3 years, thats the point. All while he was getting paid 3 times what Mark Wood and Jonny Bairstow were.
