Pros for buying SAFC vs NUFC

I think Newcastle's potential for growth is huge, depends on the owner's resources and their ambition.

I asked another poster how much it would cost to make Sunderland a midtable Premier League team, let alone a team competing for Europa League spots?

That's why I say it's a good plaything. I think that the amount of money needed to get there limits the capital profit potential for an investor type owner. From where we are now, the amounts you'd need to invest by way of purchase price and further investment to get a similar capital profit after, say, 5 years, are likely to be much lower.

well considering Seaburn and Roker are in the City of Sunderland, I would say the former. A bit like Walker, Byker and Cruddas Park are in Newcastle
Sunderland City Centre is a dive but to say the "whole of Sunderland is", is clearly bullshit
Newcastle has a great city centre but is surrounded by some shitholes.
Was in Byker high street the other week for the first time. f***ing hell.

I guess it depends on how much Short would ask for Sunderland and how much debt you have externally?

By the way I'm not singing the virtues of Sunderland nor denigrating Newcastle, just trying to balance things out there. I note with interest that people are saying Sunderland has a shite city centre, then another minus is that the SoL isn't in the City Centre. Prospective buyers will primarily look at the club, the infrastructure, support etc. The City Centre will be secondary, Newcastle players live in Northumberland don't they?

Buyers will look at the club, the infrastructure, the support, and so on, but if you're trying to impress a party, surely it's easier when the ground is set in a nice city?

I wouldn't know, I've never tried buying one. Man Utd, Everton, Liverpool aren't set in the city centre, I'm not sure how many are to be honest

The last published external debt was £68m, but that may well have been reduced by now. The rumour in the summer was that Short was willing to accept £80m, although ideally he'd like £110m. A combined number in the range of £140-170m wouldn't be that far adrift, I'd have thought - say £250m less than Ashley wants for you.

Is it fuck man and I'm not even from there. Maybe that is what Lewberry is alluding too. Cruddas Park, Byker and Walker are f***ing shitholes and Sunderland has some nice areas too.

I'm not saying that there are not decent areas, or that there are not other cities with shit bits but the centre is J Arthur Rank and bombing it would be a massive improvement. The nice bits don't put way the negatives in my opinion. Happy for you to disagree but you won't convince me otherwise which is why I moved away and never moved back.

You said the whole of Sunderland is shit marra, it isn't
You aren't missed so I wouldn't worry too much about you telling us you've moved in every post
I live in a worse place, but it's home

Im biased obviously but why the fuck would you currently buy Sunderland? Havent got a clue, massive debt - potentially years from the prem in which time the tv money will have run out. The squad needs a total overhaul and even then you may do a Villa just as likely as being like us. It would be a shocking investment.

That said I wouldnt buy us either.

To be honest, apart from being a fan I wouldn't either in the current state. The going price could be worth a gamble if anyone has that amount of spare (investment) cash, because if handled correctly there'd be a decent profit IF success returns. As you know, there's money to be made in NE football - but lots of patience would be required!

You need to look at what you want if your a multi billionaire. If you want to make more money stay away from football. If you want to be noticed buying a football club will give you massive exposure. Roman Abromovich
is well known because of his ownership of Chelsea, before that he was a billionaire nobody knew about.

It just an opinion, don't take it to heart.

Cannot help how I view my home town.

It must be god-awful just being a billionaire that no-one knows about? I somehow think "being noticed" was not one of his main reasons to buy Chelsea. I'd imagine he was very well known in the global business world long before his ties with Chelsea.

But not known by the general public. I'm not saying Abramovich bought Chelsea for fame but it has given him more column inches than any other of his businesses.
What I'm saying is buying a football will give them exposure more so than any other business.

But you changed your opinion. First it was all of it was shit, then your next post you said " I'm not saying it doesn't have decent areas". Not sure why I would take it to heart, I only go to Sunderland to watch football.

You don't need to keep putting it down. We all know that there are parts of the North East that are run down. That's all down to the local economy. Don't you think places like Guildford would be a right shithole as well if it wasn't for all the wealth in that area.

Leaving the actual clubs aside for a moment, you have to also consider that Sunderland as a place is an absolute monstrosity.

It is a stagnant, decaying mess. The general depression that hangs over the place will hardly be pursuasive in tempting somebody to part with millions.
Go to bed man yer talking bollocks
