Premier League Pitch Rules?

Winger
I’ve just flicked on the Coventry vs Wrexham match and their pitch has a loveley tartan pattern trimmed into the turf, and it made me think that I don’t remember seeing a pitch with any pattern other than plane blocky stripe pattern for quite a while. It seemed to be the ‘in’ trend 10 years ago for the groundsman to show off his artistic flair, but I don’t think I’ve seen it for ages now.

Have I missed a rule change that banned it? Or have the groundsmen lost their creativity?

Premier League pitch patterns are strictly regulated to simple, horizontal lines cut across the width of the pitch, perpendicular to the touchline, creating a consistent look. Elaborate designs like zig-zags or checkers, common before 2017, were banned to assist assistant referees and VAR with offside decisions, following UEFA regulations
