It's astonishing that the team keeps getting better when people on here claim that our transfer business is awful every window.

Defies Physics that one.
Maybe because enough of the signings are coming good even if its taking a season or two and its being helped by tremendous academy players coming into the squad? In general I'd say there have been a lot of nothing signings, cheap signings or players nowhere near ready for this level.

Our transfer business in the last three seasons - since Speakman arrived - has been outstanding. The value of the playing squad has gone from about 1 million to 100 million plus - and we’ve banked 20 million from the sale of Stewart and Clarke. If we were a private company, listed on the market, our share price increase would be meteoric !

Not quite as we are still trading (Division) in the market with the lowest returns on players and everything else that goes with it. If Jobe Bellingham is worth £20mill in the championship today but we kept onto him for another 6 months he would be worth £40-£50 mill in the Prem. Its that hump we need to get across getting promoted to the promised land where everything doubles and trebles in value. Location, location, location so to speak

I'd 100% agree but I'd argue that's a successful transfer strategy. You buy 6 players for relatively little and just hope that one of those six makes it. And at least one of those six always does.

Like that's working? It's not awful.

Don’t dare to suggest we’ve signed a dud. The pitch forks will be out
I mean we sort of did. He arrived overweight, lumbered around for the U21s, did the same in the championship, got “injured” after about 30 mins game time then hoyed a sickie ever since.

What’s his salary? He must be on a fair whack considering he’s only sacrificed 45 mins of his life to our team

Embarrassing

He definitely is so far. With that in mind though not many teams, if any, manage to have transfer windows where most or all of their signings go on to shine. As i mentioned in another thread, the squad now in comparison to when the owners took over is very very strong. To come up from league one and have two seasons out of three where we look like challenging for promotion is also great progress. yeah you have Ipswich who managed to go up first time, but other teams have tried their approach and failed. Look at some of the money Boro have spent and theyre still in this league after 16 years. Money isnt always the answer, and some of the risk signings are going to fail (more so considering we seem to target players who have had issues with form/injuries in the past, but have high potential)

Check his wiki page for appearances most supporters from each club he has been at have mentioned he is a sick note hats off to the recruitment team for another gem basically cheap player nobody would touch and another player through the door at the time to keep everyone happy
Been told he is good at wallpapering he can give me gand sorting the frontroom and bedroom out . If he sprains his wrist pasting club will have to deal with it
Are you serious slagging our recruitment 🙈🙈 it’s the best it’s ever been. You’re never going to get everyone correct but we have done with the majority.

We were warned by Sheffield that he was a sick note too.

A lot of us did at the start of the season and as per got nowt but shite for suggesting the obvious. He turned up in worse condition than an over 40s player. That’s actually an insult to a lot of over 40s players as a lot of folk keep themselves in good nick these days.

I agree that that our recruitment has largely been good. Last seasons recruitment was poor we can’t sugar coat it. We have had most of our success where players have been British based at some point. Have had much success in the market we’ve shifted to. This season we’ve struck a decent balance but the injured signings have left us threadbare.

Last seasons I would say was average. We were unfortunate with Browne's injury (although he didn't exactly standout for me as a top player in the team) We signed Abdullahi and Aleksic for the future, i dont think they were ever going to play many games for atleast the first 6 months.
Isidor and Mepham have came in and established themselves as crucial to the team.
Moore done exactly what is expected really just a backup keeper. Poveda and Connolly have failed for me, neither look like they will have an impact at the club.
Samed however, i cant really comment yet. it seems one of the strangest transfer of recent times really as we knew he wouldn't play for the first half of the season, if he comes in and is the player we are lead to believe then it will make sense, but currently its all a bit baffling

Overall i wouldnt say the above is too far away from most peoples view, so id say it was an average window for the players we signed, but we were definitely lacking one or two more signings that could push us forward

It's crazy that people pick a few bad signings and apply that to our entire recruitment policy.

Since 2021 when KLD took over we have went from playoffs in League 1, promotion and now fighting automatic promotion with teams around us who have far outspent us and had the benefit of parachute payments and a year at least in the prem.

We've signed players like Lihadji for few hundred thousand and sold for a profit, Ross Stewart for 400k and sold for 10 million after he got us the goals to get promoted and he's played 9 games since, and Jack Clarke, sold for a profit with a sell on clause as opposed to his contract running down a la Maja and Colback.

We've increased the value of our squad with players now wanted by top clubs and figures quoted in the 10s of millions for them whilst also lowering the average age massively.

We've promoted from within with the likes of Watson, Rigg, Patterson all stepping up whilst supplementing it with players like Alese, Ballard, Mundle etc for next to nothing.

We've used the loam market well with Diallo, Mepham, Isador to name a few whilst also sending players like Matty Young and others out to get valuable experience.

We've got contracts with the likes of Rigg, Ballard, Patterson, Bellingham done early to avoid Colback and Maja situations and ensure we get maximum value if they're sold.

I'm waffling and could go on but I won't, end of the day we are in a better place than we were after the takeover financially, league position wise and standard of player and you can not pick a few bad signings (who may yet turn it around) as a reason to say its been bad, all clubs make bad signings.

The money we did spend was on ones for the future. That needs to change this window if we want to go up. We can’t wait 6 months for them to either be fit or ready to push for a start.

I can’t remember who we were playing but I remember RLB subbing him on and watching the little barrel trudge across the field before going down for a hammie after 15 mins of playing like a sweaty 16 year old on PE
