Yeah that does stand out. Last home game of the season win need 5k away fans n only 21k when bearing in mind the same ground held 28k v the scum.6month earlier. Did the roker end get some chopping done that season or was bob doing the usual penny pinching?

That would be classed as child molestation now.you may have a claim!! :D
Probably the latter marra.

I was pretty accurate at guessing the gate in those days (before it got announced over the tannoy) but it was packed just like the Scum game as you mention.

Lack of breeding ? Bit below the belt that one, but not surprising given the high esteem in which you hold yourself.
You're a ruffian as illustrated by your thuggish antics in your younger days. I imagine you stayed well clear of big imposing blokes like me and singled out those lads who resembled Marc almond !

You'll have lectured them on their set up no doubt and bored the pants off them and they will have been relieved when they kicked you out at The Fort.
The fort ? We barely made it beyond the New Derby!

Was in mainstand paddock (roker wing) and it was a brilliant day. Real big match atmosphere and must win for us iirc.

I can remember them trying to get on pitch at HT directly behind goal. A few arrests and a steward led away with blood all owa his face

Mad day. Main stand seats, Block C. Lads took the piss on the pitch and we goaded their supporters beneath us.

Did John Byrne score?

Drinking session in Fulwell afterwards was canny.

I was thinking about this game earlier then saw this post, coincidental! We played like world beaters that day, superb. Loads of Pompey fans up too.

Thought capacity was down to 22k at that point although could be wrong

Quite like the Pompey fans. Ardent, come across as total A1 puffs when chants are in full swing but they pack a bit of a punch. I seem to recall they were particularly riled when a bunch of lads from Suddick
( just out for a nice walk along the beach and nowt to do with football) started chasing them for sport. This was 11.30 or thereabouts and we'd just brekkied in the roker cafe. After the "eee yer knar there's nee need for that" had died down the rossers made a courtesy call only to find that most of the stragglers were bussing it over the town to get some payback. Having met a few of them daarn saarf later on I was flabbergasted to find that they has taken the shelter deck and strewn glass everywhere when confronted by some lads from witherwack, witherwackians in the vernacular, I believe. Being well aled up by this time, full of revelry and hell bent on further jollification they pursued yet more high jinks along my beloved roker avenue, skirmishing with the locals in the navy club, sappers and the cambridge before finally crawling into roker park, a little the worse for wear but their spirit still intact.

The next season it definitely was. Just cant c why it would of been down 6k on the only other full house. I know the roker end had another cut around 93 but can't remember it being during the season. I was only 8 so wouldn't of been paying a great deal of attention

Snap mate - same age as me back then!

Fuck off!!!! You're younger than me?! I'll have been 9 at the time, but thought you were in your 40s/50s!

I remember leaving the ground and walking along Roker Park Rd to find a few Pomey fans standing around their MG Metro that had a flat tyre. Someone pointed put what a great day it must be for them and the driver replied that he didn't have a spare either. This is pre-mobile phone days too.

4 blokes in a sodding MG Metro, 8 hour drive, stuffed 4-1 and then a flat tyre with no spare. What a shit day

Any memories from this one, Portsmouth were heading for promotion, had won their last 5 games and we were heading for relegation. Somehow we absolutely battered them winning 4-1, they missed out on promotion and we stayed up...just. Would love to see some footage of the game. It was one of those games where you are just hoping the lads could do it and they did.

they had massive turn out, were in a party mood and their team never turned up, I felt abit sorry for them but Sunderland fans know what that feels like.

I was talking to a couple of Pompey fans last season about his this game, we were on the train back to London, they were playing Hartlepool and were good craic, that game still hits a raw nerve. Sunderland were very average that season and TBH I didn't see that performance coming.

Average? We were nearly relegated weren't we??

I was in Fulwell that day, remember it being hot day and sun was out. Got ridiculous when Martin Gray scored 4th, sure he played 1-2 on edge of box and slid it in far corner...someone might correct me...

In Butchers book he said he got smashed after game and couldn't remember getting home.
